Constant Vigilance 2, Session 9. Friday the 10th, A Classroom. Period 4

The Doctor was smiling as everyone piled into the classroom today.

"Hope everyone enjoyed their extra-long break from this class. Today we jump into something much bigger than just random alien races that you may never encounter. Today, we discuss the most important thing in the universe: friends. Nothing is really more important than having someone you can trust, someone you can rely on. I've had many such companions over the years. And instead of me talking about them..." the Doctor patted his holoprojector. "I'll have you talk to them, instead. That's the agenda for the day, nothing fancier than that. Talk with some of the people from my past, learn whatever you want from them."

He pressed the button for the projector to turn on, and several figures appeared.

"Go on, have at it. No homework for next week."

"Well, usually a walking talking penguin doesn't blend in too well," Frobisher admitted. "You morph into whatever you need to, usually. I've even impersonated the Doc once, to help out."

"What about your real form?" Cameron couldn't help but wonder.

"Eh, nothing real special, to be honest." And with a bit of unceremonious flash, instead of a penguin there was a humanoid, pale yellow in color, three to four feet in height, with a round, featureless head, and wearing spectacles sitting there. He gave a bit of a nod, then changed back into a penguin.

"The penguin form is a lot more fun."

"Penguins can't fly, though," Cameron pointed out because he was one track minded like that.

"Well, yeah," Frobisher said. "But if I needed to fly, I'd just turn into something that could. Not a lot of call for flying, on a day to day basis. Especially when you're traveling by TARDIS most of the time."

"TARDIS? That's the blue telephone box, right?" Cameron asked. He'd never really been inside.

"Yeah," Frobisher said. "There's a bit more to it than that, but that's prolly a story best left for the Doc to tell you."

"Okay," Cameron said and scratched his jaw. "How did you meet the Doctor?"

"I swear, the Doc should've just told that story before this whole thing," Frobisher said. "I was a private investigator, someone put a bounty on his head, I investigated, found out he was a really nice guy, and then went about helping him escape that bounty instead of collecting it."

Re: Companion Projections.

[identity profile] cameronmitchell.livejournal.com 2006-11-10 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"And you decided to travel with him after that?" Cameron asked.

Re: Companion Projections.

[identity profile] joxertehmighty.livejournal.com 2006-11-10 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, seemed like the kind of guy you wanted to follow around, see what happened," Frobisher said. "Sure beat bein' just another private dick."

Re: Companion Projections.

"I don't think you're just another P.I. if you can change shapes," Cameron remarked.

Re: Companion Projections.

"You are if you're on my planet," Frobisher pointed out.

Re: Companion Projections.

[identity profile] cameronmitchell.livejournal.com 2006-11-10 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well yeah, but you could make a killing here," Cameron argued.

Re: Companion Projections.

"I could've gotten myself caught by the government and dissected, more like," Frobisher said. "By the time your planet'll accept an alien in its midst, I ain't that special anymore."

Re: Companion Projections.

"There's that, but we've had several aliens here at Fandom but you're the only shapeshifter I've met so far," he shrugged.

Re: Companion Projections.

[identity profile] joxertehmighty.livejournal.com 2006-11-11 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
"See, I've never heard of this Fandom place before," Frobisher admitted. "And the Doc sure never mentioned it when we travelled. Wonder why that is?"

Re: Companion Projections.

[identity profile] cameronmitchell.livejournal.com 2006-11-11 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe he didn't know about it either?" Cameron suggested.

Re: Companion Projections.

[identity profile] joxertehmighty.livejournal.com 2006-11-11 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Very possible. And anything the Doc didn't know about, that's gotta be somethin' very special," Frobisher said. "I don't know how that guy knows all he does, but he sure knows a lot."

Re: Companion Projections.

[identity profile] cameronmitchell.livejournal.com 2006-11-11 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
"It sounds like he's been to a lot of places," Cameron agreed.

Re: Companion Projections.

[identity profile] joxertehmighty.livejournal.com 2006-11-11 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, got any other questions for me, or have I fully satiated your curiosity, my friend?"

Re: Companion Projections.

[identity profile] cameronmitchell.livejournal.com 2006-11-11 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Nah, I think I'm good for now," Cameron smiled. "Thanks."

Re: Companion Projections.

[identity profile] joxertehmighty.livejournal.com 2006-11-11 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Frobisher gave a nod. "G'luck with everything, kid."
