Science! (Thursday, Period 7)

"Hello. I'm your substitute teacher, Dorothy Petrillo-Zbornak. That's a mouthful, and I'm only your teacher for today, so you can call me Dorothy. Your teacher, Professor Frizzle. Frizzle? That's what it says. Professor Frizzle, whose parents probably took acid in the sixties, has left a class plan for me so we continue where you left off.

I'm sure you're all thrilled.

Today's topic is electricity. I'm talking about actual electricity, not the kind you have with a member of the opposite sex - or the same sex if you're that way inclined - that then fades after you marry them.

On your desk you'll find a handout on the construction of the atom and electrons.

Electricity is conducted through something. A material. Some materials are conductive and some aren't. Silver is the most conductive of all metals. So if you look like a Madam in a brothel in Atlanta with all of the jewelry, and everyone knows that even the gold jewelry is gold-plated silver, then don't put your hand into an active socket or a toaster. The electricity will be conducted and you'll fry like the Colonel's chicken or my mother if left in the sun too long. The results are pretty much the same.

The least conductive material is deionized water. Drinking water isn't so bad either, but sea water is.

Let's talk about how electricity is made. On the other side of your handout there's a diagram for how a steam turbine works. But there are cleaner ways than forcing billowing smoke into the atmosphere and turning it into a thick layer of smog.

What suggestions can you think of?"

[OOC: Because The Golden Girls has been mentioned in game many times before, we're going to go with this concept: the show was a reality TV show that followed the lives of Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia. If your character would know the show, they would know of Dorothy.]

Gwynn was taking notes and also comparing the two teaching styles.

Hermione would never chat or pass notes. Well, maybe in a couple circumstances, but she would probably be annoyed about it and she's not doing it now.

Everyone would be relieved to know that the big pink bunny ears that Chad was wearing today did not hinder his usual note taking.

Yes. Bunny ears. Pink ones. They matched his shirt.

"Troll labour forces?"

Chad was working small-scale first, and considering the resources for just the island at the moment.

"The Ox and Donkey system work well back home for moving water through the villages."

She's still learning about how this whole electricity thing works.
