Through a Glass Darkly: Spies and Spying; Week 9 - Period 3

Aly was having a staring contest with three of the tiny trolls when the class arrived.  They had their clubs raised but hadn't, yet, attacked.  She stroked the beaded necklace at her throat, looking amused, and then consciously turned her attention to the class.  The trolls grunted at each other a few times before forming a huddle.  They looked like football players trying to call a play without a quarterback in charge.

"Morning all," Aly said with a grin.  "I hope you had a good break and an enjoyable Halloween.  Today we're going to take a cue from Halloween and practice dressing up for a role."  She gestured towards the back of the classroom where there were clothes of all varieties and sorts, makeups, brushes, wigs, skull caps, props, pretty much anything that could be used to costume or disguise a person.

"The general goal when choosing a disguise is to be unnoticeable in the company you're going to be keeping.  Whether it's a Court ball or a back alley den, you want to fit into the place without comment or question.  If that means using makeup to roughen your skin, a wig to disguise an obvious hair color - or dye for a longer term mission, or simply different clothing to appear a diplomat, thief, or simple, everyday politician, then that's what you're going to want to do."

"Today, your job is to dress up - use the makeup, wigs, clothing - as someone other than who you are.  Next week, we'll talk about how to put together the rest of your cover, how to move, how to enter situations, how to be convincing in the role.  But for today, just put together a disguise for yourself.  Help each other figure out who you are and why you're dressing and making yourself up the way to are, and at the end of the class, I'd like everyone to give a short presentation on who you are and where you're going dressed like that.  And I don't want to see anyone dress up like a 'student' unless it's something very, very different from your everyday student wear."

[OOC: OCD coming up is up!  And do feel free to mod the costumes, makeup, and props.  Be creative!  Also, there's an unexpected visitor to the class...]

Setsuna's usually dilligent notes just weren't happening today. She kind of stared blankly at the paper as if unsure what to do with it at first, scribbled a few words, then got distracted by drawing spirals in the margins.

If the twins weren't trying to keep their thudding headaches under wraps, they'd probably be throwing paper in Setsuna's direction. Unfortunately, it was taking all their effort just to sit and act like they were paying attention.

Jake was attempting to drown himself in coffee. He was still suffering from the power outage during the weekend. It had been a bad time. A baaad time.

Teddy made a face at the makeup. That was so not going to happen any time soon.

He started digging through the costumes, hoping something would jump out at him.

Somewhere, Schrodinger had found a Hitler Youth uniform. From the pile?

From home?

Who knows. But it's totally a costume.

Setsuna wondered if the fact that she sort of resembled the living dead today, paler than even usual, circles under eyes, messier ponytail, was disguise enough.

But she did have fun distracting herself with the costumes. Until, burning red, she happened across one that looked way too much like one of her last stake-out costumes (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v719/skylie/bunny-1.jpg).

Oh, what the hell. She had to put it on. For old time's sake.

[[ holy crap, a chance to use this icon IC? *glee* Ohhhh, Mahorafest arc. XD ]]

After their little distraction, they make it over to the costumes, fumbling through a few before finding some very spiffy black suits and instrument cases. Trouble at the opera or symphony? They could be spying in the orchestra for the next 'big scandal' waiting to happen.
Keeping that as an option, they look through some wigs. Huh, maybe they could disguise themselves as...not twins. There was an idea.

The effect probably would have been better if he'd shaved that morning, but at least he'd made an effort to comb his hair for once, so Anders found himself a nice suit of the kind that would let him blend in at a pretty posh party. If he were actually going to pull this off, though, he'd have to learn to dance. Actual dancing, as opposed to his usual spaz-flailing.

Maia tried her hand with the costume make up and ended up looking like a televagelists wife who applied make up with Dutch Boy paint. "Well...at least I won't have a glaring nose on national television."

Bridge sorts through the costumes and ends up in a white t-shirt with an open blue button-up over it, and a pair of black jeans. He can't find a pair of gloves that he likes, though, so decides to just stick with his own.

Hey. Aly'd said that it was okay to dress as a student if they didn't normally, after all...

This was the moment the blue spirit had been waiting for. As everyone was busy, he snuck into the back of the room, making no sound whatsoever. Hiding behind the desk, he waited a moment to make sure no one had seen him. When everyone remained busy, he started looking around for the smoke detector.

Locating one right above him, he tilted his head back. Smoke rose up out of the nostril holes of his mask and went up to the detector. There was a beep and then the sprinklers at the back of the class went off.

The blue spirit however was gone before he could get too wet. He disappeared into the hall and out of the school without anyone ever seeing a trace of him.

Teddy stood in front of Aly, completely dry and in a dress. He was really beginning to reconsider the drag queen costume idea. He waved awkwardly.

Molly was dressed as a 'misunderstood slacker boy'. She was wearing baggy clothes, an old surplus army jacket- also baggy and a short haired wig under a baseball cap. She'd also applied a bit of facial hair to make it look like she was a young teen trying to grow his first goatee.

Schrodinger goose-stepped to Aly and gave a "Seig heil" salute. "Blending in with a potential enemy," he said.

IIIIII Can't.

I am stuck in voting limbo. Side effect of a hurricane and Louisiana's very strange voting laws.
