Monday, October 16, First Period

In addition to the usual comfy chairs and breakfast spread, there are several stacks of books scattered about the room.

"Good morning. Today we're going to do something a little different. I know that lately, you've had to deal with some rather difficult topics in this class. Prophecy isn't an easy subject, and that's especially true for those of you who've already had first-hand experience with it. So today, I want you to take some time to decompress. Work with your project group if you like, catch up on some reading-" He nodded toward the books. "Or just talk quietly with your friends. I'll be here all period for anything that you'd like to discuss with me, any questions you might have about the class, or anything else. There are handouts for you that cover the class topics for today. Those of you enrolled in the lab will find some of this material familiar, but there's more in-depth information here for you.

Also, I'll need to speak with Miss Belacqua, Miss Brown, and Miss Nitt before the end of class today."

Homework: Look up the astrological chart for your date of birth. Write out a simple description of what it says about your personality, and note any differences of opinion between your own perception of yourself and what the chart says." [ooc: You only need to enter information for date/time/place to get a reading. Make up something for the time unless your canon is OCD enough to provide it for you.]

A Note on Group Projects: The first stage of class projects is due November 13. Remember, this is the part where you write your own prophecy. Once the projects are turned in, I will assign them to another group to be interpreted.

"My Willow and her, er, roommate," Dawn hedged, not wanting to say something that might not be true about this Willow, "had a cat, but there was a tragic crossbow incident that I had absolutely nothing to do with. No pets for me since then, sadly."

Dean winced. "Ouch. Y'know, I asked for a dog for my fourth birthday and got a little brother instead. Since then, well, little brother kinda trumps dog."

"Do you still want a dog?" Dawn grinned, "Since I assume your dad won't let you give Sam back?"

"I dunno," Dean said, shrugging. "Never really thought about it -- the dog, I mean. Though I never thought about trading Sammy in for one either. He's always been enough."

"Maybe," Dean said thoughtfully. He looked at her. "Do you like dogs? I mean when they're not sorta your sister?"

"Uh...sure?" Dawn was confused, unsure exactly why Dean was asking her. "They're usually very cute."

"What about Principal Washburn?" Dawn asked, then added, "Oooh, you could get a little sister. That could be fun."

"Your dad? Dating the principal?" She blinked and played with her hair. "It's all over the radio."

"Yeah, because we all know how accurate the radio can be," Dean said. "It's always implying people are having sex who aren't."

"...I didn't say sex. Why did you say sex?" Dawn blinked, "All I heard was dating."

"You're the one who was talking about Dad presenting us with new siblings," Dean pointed out. He wasn't in the least bit flailing at the idea of his Dad having sex. Nope. Not at all.

"Okay, Dean...I was kidding. Your dad's way old and stuff." Old to a sixteen year old of course being a relative term.

"He's not that old," Dean said, feeling the need to defend his Dad. "I mean, he sorta is, but it's not like he's decrepit and falling apart or anything. But he's my Dad. Besides, I don't think he's even be interested in... since Mom."

Dawn stared at him. "You don't think your dad has ...since your mom? Dean, that's fourteen years. Could you go for fourteen years without...you know?"

"I've never seen him take any interest. And the only flirting I've seen him do is to get information. And...he really loved her," he said seriously. "He still wears his wedding ring. And he still gets totally drunk every year on the anniversary of her death."

"I'm not saying he didn't," Dawn said quietly, "and that he doesn't still, Dean. But he's human." She paused. "Er, right?"

That got a ghost of a smile from him. "As far as I know, yeah. But... Dad's always had some scary focus. And he's always been focused on hunting, on getting the thing that killed Mom. Doesn't really leave a lot of time for dating."

"He has time now," Dawn said carefully. "And wow, maybe he shouldn't meet Buffy. Too much focus for one room. My Buffy, I mean. She's coming for Parents Weekend."
