Good Omens...And Bad: Prophecy in Theory and Practice, Class Eight

Monday, October 23, First Period

The classroom doesn't look much different than it did during Parents Weekend, except for the addition of a large tropical fish aquarium against one wall. In it are swimming five very content looking fish. If it doesn't seem to have any significance to the topic of Prophecy, that's because...well, it doesn't. Aziraphale just likes the fish.

"Today we're going to cover several somewhat lesser utilized methods of divination. Specifically, we'll be talking about elemental methods and handful of what you could call the most common of the less common -- including my personal favorite, the reading of tea leaves. There's even a form of divination using specially designed computer programs, although that one is somewhat under dispute."

LECTURE:
Geomancy (earth)
Pyromancy (fire)
Hydromancy (water)
Aeromancy (atmopheric conditions)
Tasseography/Tasseomancy (tea)
Numerology (numbers)
Bibliomancy (books)
Cybermancy (computer programs)

Class Participation:
"In honor of our recent Parents Weekend experience, I'd like each of you to share one thing about the past three days that you wish you'd read a prophecy about beforehand."

Homework:
"To prepare for next week's class, I want you to write briefly about a historical personage associated with prophecy, telling whether you'd like to change places with that person, and why or why not."

Anders tilted his head and examined Bel's face for a moment. "So do you? Still serve, I mean?"

"I don't want to," Bel said uncomfortably.

"Good," Anders said, nodding vehemently. "I -- you know, I respect the hell out of you just for that, man. Lords only know what will happen to my morals this season, though."
demonbelthazor: (Crossed arms)

"Thanks," Bel said quietly. "I just hope I can stick to it."

"Y'know I'll be more than happy to smack you for it if you slip up," Anders said lightly.
demonbelthazor: (Bring It)

dirty?

Bel raised an eyebrow. "I'm halfway tempted to say 'Bring it,'" he said.

Damn right.

"My friends do it for me, when I do something stupid." Anders instinctively reached up and rubbed his arm, which had been the recipient of many a "what were you thinking" smack from Parker. "Just figured I should pass on the favor or something."
demonbelthazor: (Headtilt)

"Trouble is, if I slip up, smacking me wouldn't be very wise," Bel said. "I'm liable to kill you or something."

Anders nodded and chewed on the end of his pen for a moment. "If you did, would that maybe shock you back to your senses, or would you just keep going?"

"I don't know, man," Bel said. "I don't like to think about it."

"Me neither," admitted Anders. "Not that I, you know, think I'd do it, letting you kill me so you snap out of it. It's a great dramatic gesture and all, but it seems like a really impractical risk, and a huge gamble. Don't think I won't try and do something to help stop you, though. You know what, though? It's . . . I think it's a good sign that you do worry about it."

"Yeah, if I didn't care that'd be a really bad sign," Bel said. He sighed. "Sometimes I really wish I wasn't a demon."

Anders mentally filed that away to use for a dose of reality check, the next time a fit of emo came on. "You deal pretty damn well, all things considered. Besides, that whole demon thing is hot."

"Maybe not as well as you think," Bel said, half to himself.

Does it turn you on, baby?

"Look," Anders said. "Ninety-nine percent of the time I forget you're half demon, even with the shimmering and all. And Lords know I think better of you than a lot of humans I used to know back home. I don't know what that says about the people I used to know or my social life, but as far as I can see at least, you seem to be doing okay."

Damn right it does. Rowr.

"Thanks, man," Bel said. "That means a lot."
