Monday, October 23, First Period

The classroom doesn't look much different than it did during Parents Weekend, except for the addition of a large tropical fish aquarium against one wall. In it are swimming five very content looking fish. If it doesn't seem to have any significance to the topic of Prophecy, that's because...well, it doesn't. Aziraphale just likes the fish.

"Today we're going to cover several somewhat lesser utilized methods of divination. Specifically, we'll be talking about elemental methods and handful of what you could call the most common of the less common -- including my personal favorite, the reading of tea leaves. There's even a form of divination using specially designed computer programs, although that one is somewhat under dispute."

"To prepare for next week's class, I want you to write briefly about a historical personage associated with prophecy, telling whether you'd like to change places with that person, and why or why not."

Phoebe smiled. "Hey Joxer. How was your weekend?"

"Other than the threat of castration, I can't complain," Joxer said.

Phoebe blinked. "Who in the hell threatened you with that?"

"Kaylee's captain," Joxer said. "He said that it happens to anyone who gets a member of his crew..." he gulped. "Pregnant out of wedlock."

"Like you would do that!" Phoebe was insulted on his behalf.

"I haven't even seen her naked yet!" Joxer protested. "Okay, well, I've seen things that look like her naked, but I've not seen her naked!"

Phoebe stared. "Joxer... please tell me that did not come up in conversation with the over-protective captain?"

"Not that exactly..." Joxer scratched at the back of his head.

"What did?"

"I may have made my intentions a little too clear," Joxer said. He gave a nervous laugh.

"Oh boy," Phoebe said letting out a breath. "And they included uhmm... personal things?"

Joxer nodded. "Very, uhh, personal things."

"And he was unhappy? How did Kaylee react?"

"He, uhhh," Joxer gulped. "Somehow we started talking about babies?"

Phoebe was a little caught off guard. "Oh. Well, uhmm... babies... that's scary."

Joxer nodded. "I, kind of, uhhh... ran away."

"And left her in an awkward situation with her captain?"

"Well, Blair had already run off and left River there..." Joxer said.

Phoebe blinked. "And it maybe didn't occur to you that staying with her might add to the whole moral syupport thing?"

Joxer gulped. "But he wasn't threatening her..."

Phoebe smiled, showing that she wasn't mad. "No, but it was an uncomfortable situation for Kaylee -- and apparently for River, too. You should have stayed."

Joxer pouted. "Maybe we should talk about your weekend?"

Phoebe hugged him and then sat back.

"My sister tried to kill my boyfriend."

Joxer's eyes bugged. "Wha-wha-wha-why?"

Phoebe sighed. "Because she doesn't like him?"
