Music is Love: [10/17]

"Duets!" Lorne shouts out enthusiastically once everyone has signed in. "Two people! Singing together! Making a song that normally be nifty be extra special!"

"Duets can take many forms. You can have two people sing a regular song and switch off during the verses and chorus and get together on the final refrain. Or you could have a song which is a type of conversation between the two singers, like "Baby it's cold outside", and finally you have the album series "Duets" with great singers like Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett who are getting old and so the record companies get younger more popular artists to sing with them in a fitting tribute, sometimes ignoring green skinned crooners who can sing better than any of them! BUT DO I GET AN INVITATION? Nooooooo!"

*cough*

"But I'm not bitter."

"So today kiddies, your job is to get together with a classmate and pick a song to sing with each other. If you're feeling shy? Feel free to ask your Uncle Lorne to sing with you."

ETA: "Oh one more thing kids! With Parents Weekend coming up I'm looking forward to meeting all your parents and inviting them to next week's recital! I'm sure they would be very happy to see you all sing."

Parker cocked an eyebrow at Chad. "You go first? Or me?"

Chad considered how the switching of verses would go, and decided, "I'll start."

And, after clearing his throat and setting a tempo, he did.

"Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
Old Mother Nature's recipes
That brings the bare necessities of life."

He stoicly swooped an arm toward Parker to give her the spotlight now.

Parker's alto contrasted pretty well with Chad's bass, so she grinned as she picked p the next lines, and wandered around him, like the kid in the movie did with the bear.

Wherever I wander, wherever I roam
I couldn't be fonder of my big home
The bees are buzzin' in the tree
To make some honey just for me
When you look under the rocks and plants
And take a glance at the fancy ants
Then maybe try a few

She made a face on this, then poked Chad in the arm to join her on the chorus:

The bare necessities of life will come to you
They'll come to you!

Chad made up for not being so big on the acting part of their performance by doing complimenting little basslines with his voice through Parker's part, and was all over the joined chorus before she even had to poke him, then launched into the next part.

"Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
That's why a bear can rest at ease
With just the bare necessities of life."

Oh, fabulous, she had the tongue-tying part, ack. But Chad's back-up was good, and she hoped Zero was taking notes for the band as she swung into the second verse:

Now when you pick a pawpaw
Or a prickly pear
And you prick a raw paw
Next time beware
Don't pick the prickly pear by the paw
When you pick a pear
Try to use the claw
But you don't need to use the claw
When you pick a pear of the big pawpaw
Have I given you a clue?

This time she didn't poke him, just hopped up on the piano and swung her legs up, hamming it up, waving her arms around.

The bare necessities of life will come to you
They'll come to you!

Aw, man. Parker made his job so much easier, and he was grateful for it, definately. But since she took up the hard part (which he had strategically given to her by going first because he would have butchered it), he took the whole of the next part, leaning (carefully) on one end of the piano, did his best to act "conversational" for this part.

"So just try and relax, yeah cool it
Fall apart in my backyard
'Cause let me tell you something little britches
If you act like that bee acts, uh uh
You're working too hard

And don't spend your time lookin' around
For something you want that can't be found
When you find out you can live without it
And go along not thinkin' about it
I'll tell you something true...
"

He caught her eyes and nodded to signal the collaborative big finale.

"The bare necessities of life will come to you!"

"The bare necessities of life will come to you!"

And they ended on the same beat, thankfully. Whew. Parker laughed, and held up her hand to Chad to high-five. "Yes!"

Chad was totally all about the high-five.

"Yeah," he deducted. "We're awesome."
