When the Flight Club members get to the junkyard today, Aeryn's standing in front of an actual ship. Aeryn herself is still looking a little battered, but she's not addressing it at the moment. Just pay attention to the ship.

"This is not a simulator," she tells them. "This is a Leviathan transport pod. It's not a fighter ship, and in fact has no weapons. The Leviathan is a living ship, very peaceful, and is often used to transport cargo or people. It grows smaller ships like this which can help that." She debates throwing in a bit about And if you break it, you hurt it but she doesn't think that's true and doesn't want anyone crying if they do something wrong.

"We're just going offplanet," she continues. "I'll get us up there and down again, unless someone really wants to land us. You can fly around, get a feel for how the systems really work. You don't have to worry about hitting anything, and if you do something wrong, I'll be in the chair right next to you, able to fix it. For those of you experienced pilots who think this is boring? You're back in space, enjoy it. Also, if you need it-" She holds up a small paper bag. "-motion sickness pills."

She leads everyone who's going to go inside, where several folding chairs are set up behind the standard four. Don't worry, Bertam's stuck them to the ground but good. When everyone's seated, she sits in one of the front seats and starts up the ship, taking it off the ground, and doesn't stop until they've reached nothing but black space. The Earth is still visible through the window, though.

"All right," Aeryn asks. "Who's first?"

[They're going to be out in the middle of nowhere. Seriously, you can't crash the ship. You can't damage it by pushing a wrong button. Which is good as that would get them stranded in space or vent the cabin or something and we're not playing that out, omg.

Luke smiled. "Just checking," he said. "I've never really heard of a living ship before."

"Not many have. I don't think they're very common outside of my world," she says. "I know I've seen more than a few, but people who live entirely on planets wouldn't even see that much, usually."

"It's fascinating," Luke said with a shy smile.

"I suppose," she admits, looking around her a little. "I think I'm just used to it." Which is a little weird, given that she hasn't been on a Leviathan in at least a year and a half now. Still, it's familiar.

"You've seen more than a few," Luke said slowly. "Is this what you flew around on most of the time?"

"I mostly traveled on a command carrier. Much bigger, much more... military," she says. "Peacekeepers use Leviathans for things like prisoner and cargo transport, though. I know my way around them pretty well, and a transport pod."

"Are the command carriers alive as well?"

"No. Leviathans are biomechanoid. Command carriers and the greater majority of all other ships are just mechanoid. A lot of people, though. I don't suppose that counts as the same thing."

Luke smiled. "Not exactly," he said. "How many people was 'a lot'?"

"It depends from ship to ship, but they can hold up to roughly fifty thousand." Which would be why Aeryn hates absolute silence. It is new. And scary.

Luke's mouth dropped open. "So many."

"That's roughly the size of some cities here, isn't it?" she asks. "The majority of my species is space-born. They're like cities, in a way, only... enclosed."

Luke laughed a little nervously. "That's the size of the biggest city on Tatooine. I'm not used to a lot of people."

"If it helps, I doubt you'll ever need to be on one," she assures him."And this isn't a bad place to be when you're not used to people. Small islands are good for that."

"It's still a little close," Luke admitted. "It was me and my aunt and uncle and kilometers of nothing for years."

"At least you had them around," she tries.

Luke smiled a little ruefully. "And sometimes even they were just. too. much. I spent a lot of time by myself."

Aeryn gives a little smile back and says, "I get that way myself sometimes. It's really the only reason I still have my own room," she admits. "You seem to be good with people, though."

"It's because it's new," Luke said. "I knew the same hundred people my entire life. This is much better." He smiled again. "But sometimes I miss the quiet."

"It is possible to find it here," she assures him. "Just usually not in the dorms."

"I've gone down to the beach a few times," Luke said. "All that water..."

"Go when it rains," she suggests. Not that she knows from experience.

Luke laughed. "I will. Don't tell Rory, though. She'll tell me I'd catch a cold or something."

"I'd have to tell her that if you do, it would be your choice, so it's your own fault," she says matter-of-factly. "And sometimes it's worth a cold."

Says the girl who's never had one.

"Definitely," Luke said. He smiled. "I still get the feeling that she'd like to wrap me up in fluff and never let me out into the world."
