Internet for Dummies, Wednesday 10/11, 3rd Period

Abby greeted the class with a flash from the digital camera she held. "I hope everyone got the ~~handwavy~~ email I sent asking you to bring an item to sell. If not, you've got to pick something that you have on you."

Abby directed each of the students over to a section of the lab that she set up for taking pictures. "Once we've got your pictures uploaded you've got to come up with a good description for your item. You have to balance powerful 'selling words' with not totally lying. It should be fun."

"After you've done that, feel free to shop as you watch the bids roll in."

Mac made her way up to Abby, pulling an MP4 player out of her pocket. "Cheap freebie," she said by way of explaination. "It's not even a named make. Still, someone might pay money for it."

"Technology sells quick." Abby nodded and took a few quick shots. "Even crappy technology."

"I don't really own much of anything," Door says a bit apologetically. "Except the books and clothes and such that I bought when I got here, and I need those." She holds up a stack of CDs about as high as her head. "I do have these, though? They came in the post."

It's about 50,000 free hours of AOL.

Abby laughed and nodded. "This is perfect." She took several pictures of the stack and then handed them back to Door.

"Now you need to figure out how to list these so people want to buy them. You'll need to be pretty creative."

"The fact it looks quite shiny (http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/9527/usingmp4jw0.jpg) and new will probably help." Mac said turning it over in her hands. "People are easily swayed to buying pretty things."

Buffy pondered for a while, then slid her bead-bracelet off her arm. She showed it to Abby. "Does this work? It was kind of cheap, but it's really pretty and it's got lots of colours..."

"Shiny equals fast selling item!" Abby grinned. "Now you just need to extoll it's virtues."

"It'll be great." Abby nodded and took a few snapshots of the item. "You just need to convince people on the internet that they not only need to buy this bracelet, but that they need to spend insane amounts of money on it. Make this bracelet the new 'it' thing."

Buffy beamed. "I can do that! I can make it really stylish too!"

"Awesome." Abby nodded. "You get right on that."

"Uh, I got a t-shirt that John from DawgToy touched?" It was one of his. Dude was kind of grabby.

"Depends on if people know who she is, which I do not. Maybe you can jazz it up by saying it's the last picture she ever signed before being brutally murdered." Abby grinned way too much at the thought of murder. "People love that sort of morbid thing."
