Upon entering the danger shop, students were greeted with an ordinary looking room, empty except for an area in one corner that was set up with a table of breakfasty-type foods and some chairs. Once all of the students were on hand, however, the room's appearance changed, until it resembled the countryside of central Europe. Germany perhaps, or Austria.

Aziraphale smiled and nodded at each student, checking off their names from his list, and waited until everyone was assembled before beginning.

"Welcome to detention. Since I've been given to understand that this is meant to be a learning experience as much as it is a punishment, I've arranged a couple of scenarios for you today. This morning, you'll each face an...enemy, of a sort, in a different setting. How you deal with the encounter, how you ultimately defeat your enemy, is entirely up to you. I expect you each to draw upon the strengths and knowledge you possess.

After lunch, you'll be working together to overcome one additional challenge. Are there any questions?"

"Also a lie," Aziraphale pointed out gently. "It isn't that I have any particular information that tells me otherwise. And I have no idea if you're lying to other people or not. But I can tell when I'm being lied to. Seems rather deceptive on my part to let you go on thinking you're fooling me when you're not."

Billy's cover story had grown a bit thin when he'd been talking to Nadia, but that was recent. Phale was implying he'd known all along.

"How do you know?" Billy asked, suspicion still quite evident in his voice. "Who are you really?"

Quirking an eyebrow, Aziraphale replied, "How do you mean, who am I 'really'? I'm not anyone other than the person I claim to be. But to answer your first question, I know because I can see your soul."

"You...what?" He hadn't relaxed, or calmed down, but he was now distracted from looking for an escape route.

"Not just your soul," he quickly amended. "Souls in general. It's hard to lie to a person who can see what you look like really, you know. Although it's likely I'm not the only person on the island who can tell, just so that you're warned. I am, however, also not the sort who goes around and gossips."

He tilted his head at Billy. "So, my dear, would you like to tell me why you've created this story to hide behind?"

Billy hesitated. He honestly didn't quite remember just how much of the cover story he'd told Aziraphale. "Witness protection." he said finally. He didn't mention the whole `classified` bit. "William is my real name. Kessler isn't."

He couldn't decide how he felt about telling.

Aziraphale nodded. "Not sent here by a foster care program, nor is your father in the military." The words were said in a matter-of-fact tone, not at all accusatory, simply stated.

"Would you like to tell me your real last name? Might make things easier, you know, if you have one person you can actually be honest with."

"He....sort of was. Just not US. Or, any other country." shut up!

"I have no idea what my real last name is. My father never told me."

Aziraphale nodded. He could tell this was a difficult thing for Billy to do, and he appreciated the trust the young man was demonstrating.

"I'm sorry for that, your father not telling you. It's the sort of thing a person ought to know. But people take names that aren't the ones they're given all the time, my very oldest friend did. So if you're comfortable with Kessler, then I suppose it's as much your real name as William is."

He didn't address the shaky truth of the first statement.

"I, uh, I have to go." Billy said.

"Of course." Aziraphale nodded, and smiled. "If you ever need to talk, my door is open."

"Right." Billy said, hurrying out of the Danger Shop, trying to decide what he'd just meant about needing to go.
