The island may have gone grayscale and period, but the Doctor... was grayscale and wearing the same outfit he wore everyday. Really, he'd be wearing that outfit no matter what the time period. Not even strange physics altering changes would get him out of the jacket and jumper.

As people filtered into the classroom, the Doctor pointed at the bin in front of his desks for the essays he asked for last week. After everyone got settled he passed out two handouts, One on Zygons and the other on the Rutan Host.

"If I thought I could hold your attention on the morning before the big Homecoming dance, I'd be a fool. But if you'd like to humor me, glance over the packets and pair up. Discuss what you'd do to see if people you knew were secretly evil aliens in disguise. Tests, that sort of thing. Devise a stratagem."

"Or, on the other hand, gossip about dresses or brag about your dates. I'll be sitting here at my desk, playing with my little plastic cowboys and unfortunately stereotyped Native Americans."

Pip sat in front of her. "So, plotting?"

Pippi smiled at him.

"What shall we plot, oh my namesake?"

"Well, we could either do what the Doctor wants, or we could goof off. Which is what he appears to be doing."

"Do you have any thoughts on how we might goof off?"

"I dunno. What do you want to do at the carnival tonight?"

"I could win you something at the strength test, and you could win me something at the shooting range? And then ~~the tunnel of lurrrrrve~~ some rides?"

"Sounds fun without being overly immasculating."

Marie waited for a partner.

"So I hear you and Jaime have been put on the ballot for Homecoming Court."

Marie beamed. "Yep, I was shocked."

"I'm not and congrats."

"Thanks," Marie said. "I'm really looking forward to the dance. I haven't decided if I'm going to the carnival or not."

"I might after my shift at the hotel is done today."

"At least the weather is nice ~~unlike in real life~~," Marie said.

Phoebe nodded. "This is true." She grinned. "I'm really looking forward to tonight."

Dean grinned at Layla. "So already for tonight?"

Layla was trying really hard to not beam too much. "I think so. I hope so. It's a little late if I'm not. Are you?"

"Got a suit, got a pretty date, yeah I'd say I was ready."

That got a happy giggle out of her. "Guys have it so much easier than girls. All you have to do is clean yourselves up, and you're good to go."

"Yeah," Dean deadpanned. "They've got water hooked up outside for all us guys to hose ourselves off with." He grinned. "And really, that's because we know when we're beat. You girls are going to outshine us every time so we settle for being clean and presentable and bask in the reflected glory."

"Oh, you're not going to have to hose yourself off," Layla teased, rolling her eyes playfully. "And don't say things like that, or you might be disappointed with what you get."

"Nah, I don't think there's much chance of that."

Layla blushed again, a little harder. "Did you want to go over together, or meet up at the dance?" she asked.
