Internet for Dummies, Wednesday 10/4, 3rd Period

On each desk of the computer lab is a coupon with the following words:

$25.00 good for use on Ebay.com

Once everyone had taken their seat, Abby came up to the front and grinned. "Today you're going to go shopping in what amounts to a great big yard sale. Only with a more crap and less lemonade stands."

"Ebay is a network of people who are offering their crap up to sell by auction. You enter in a bid for the item and then wait to see if you win it. If someone else is interested in the item, there might be a bidding war." Abby sighed. "Which means you'll spend an entire day refreshing and bidding just to lose the red leather dog collar for a measly 25 cents at the last second!"

Abby growled and shook her head. "Lousy btrwmnfan83! I'll get you one of these days!"

"Uh...anyways, you're all going to bid on items. Keep a close eye and make sure you don't get outbid and..." Abby smiled happily. "...you get to keep whatever you buy!"

[ooc: For the purpose of the class, you're going to be bidding on items that close their auction within the hour. Feel free to try and outbid other players and/or leave them comments.]

You do not! And I could so! You're making this up. You won't even read this book, will you?

Belatedly, Evie checked in and raised her bid to $18.00, then glared at the screen. "Ha."

Image Of course I will read it! Would I pay money for a book I'm not going to read? How stupid do you think I am?

The bidding rises to $19.50. btrwmnfan83 is apparently very determined.

I don't know! But you won't explain what the camel is doing! Or why it's important!!!!

Evie folded her arms, and scowled at the computer screen, then raised her bid to $21.00. She really wanted the book, drat btrwmnfan83.

Message from Ebay:

You've been outbid. Current bid is $21.50. Current bidholder is btrwmnfan83.

Image It is top secret and therefore way to important to be telling you.

TELL ME!!

Evie blinked, and hastily raised her bid to $24.00. Oh, dear. She'd have to spend her own money if this went too much higher. Surely the auction would close soon, wouldn't it?

Could she even buy it, without one of those AyTeeEm cards?

Evie wibbled. Book, no book. Win, no win. Explanation, no explanation.

Please? Tell?

"Ah!" Evie glared at the screen. "Fine! Be like that!" And raised her bid to $30 before she could think about it.

Your camels can suffer!

Image ANIMAL CRUELTY! You will wish you never threatened my precious camels.

Bid: $31.50

You were going to blow them up, weren't you?

BID: $32.00

Re: Ebay!

[identity profile] imac-kenzie.livejournal.com 2006-10-04 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Image I would never. I need the book to save them. Would you want harm to come to animals because of you?

Re: Ebay!

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-10-04 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Well why didn't you say that in the first place? Instead of insulting my intelligence?

And she doesn't really believe it, but, well. What if it's true? What if btrwomanfan83 needs the book to save the camels?

has withdrawn her bids.
