Detention: 9/30/06

When entering the Danger Shop for detention today, the students will find themselves in a rather tranquil environment.

Tranquil, but somewhat unnatural. White void as far as the eye can see, barring the single, almost floating doors that would lead back out of the Danger Room.

The Doctor sits cross-legged on the spotless white floor, a small notepad in his lap, a pen behind one of his sizable ears.

He marks down attendance as people arrive.

When both students had arrived, the Doctor did not speak, but held up a simple note.

It read "Meditate".

Lunchtime

At right about noon, the door to the Danger Room opens, and in walks the Doctor carrying three large pizza boxes from Pizza Planet, a package of Penguin biscuits, and a very large thermos filled with tea (and three cups).

"Ah, good you're both here," the Doctor said. "Sorry I wasn't here in the flesh until now, but, I come bearing food and drink. Plain cheese, veggie, and a smattering of meats are the different toppings, just to cover my bases. Eat up, drink, chat, we'll have something more interesting after you're fed."

Blair blinked at the sight of the Doctor coming into the room but he shrugged and stretched. A few hours of meditation had made him pretty mellow. "Smells great, man. Thanks!"

The Doctor shut off the projected version of himself and set out the food, sitting on the floor himself.

"Was a bit preoccupied earlier," the Doctor said. "Hopefully you weren't too bored?"

"Nah, man." Blair took a slice of cheese pizza and one of meat for himself and sat back. "I meditate a lot on my own. I don't normally get that sort of uninterrupted block of time though, so it was cool."

"Good to hear," the Doctor said. He paused. "What sort of nefarious deed di you commit to get landed in here, exactly?"

"Sadly, I won the lottery this week. But I'm sure it's karma. I didn't get detention this week when I deserved so it all evens out."

"And what did you do that so deserved such punishment, then?" the Doctor asked, grabbing a slice of veggie pizza.

"I sorta disrespected a teacher and called him a name and kinda poked him." Blair said with a frown. "I think he felt sorry for me and that's why he didn't give me detention."

The Doctor kept a straight face, amazingly. "You... poked a teacher?"

"It wasn't a very hard poke!" Blair facepalmed.

"I'm sure it wasn't," the Doctor said. "Well, now you feel bad about it, and I'm sure no real harm was done. Poking is rather harmless, in the end."

"Yeah, and I did end up in detention anyway so I'm suitably punished." Blair munched on his pizza and thought about how poking could be the first step to a living a life of evilness and violence.

Agnes looked dubiously at the round flat things, but it smelled good, so she waited to see how Blair ate it and then took a couple of pieces for herself.

Oh yes, she approved of this stuff.

She really wished she knew why her mood kept swinging up and down, though. It was starting to get on her nerves.

"And how about you," the Doctor asked Agnes. "What evil deed did you commit?"

Agnes chewed slowly before answering. "I missed a class and chose detention so I could make up a quiz."

"Oh," the Doctor said. "That doesn't seem so bad."

"Yes, I am," the Doctor said. "And try a Penguin biscuit, for dessert. Wonderful things, they are." He smiled. "It's nice to meet you, Agnes Nitt."

Agnes took a biscuit as directed and set it aside for after she finished her pizza. "I can't say the same today. Probably next time, though."
