Gun Club, noon

Parker opened up the gun range, checked the room, posted the sign, then got out her .Sig and her 9mm and started practicing.

SAFETY RULES:

· TREAT ALL GUNS AS IF THEY WERE LOADED

· KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL READY TO FIRE

· BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT’S BEYOND

· ALWAYS WEAR HEARING AND EYE PROTECTION

· NEVER USE ALCOHOL OR DRUGS BEFORE OR WHILE SHOOTING.

· CHECK IN ALL WEAPONS BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE RANGE.

The gun range is open.

"Nervous about tonight. Are you still going to be able to roadie for the band?" Parker asked anxiously. "I'm sure they can haul most of their stuff, but those amps are heavy."

"Wouldn't miss it," he smirked. "You'd be amazed how effective, 'I'm with the band.' can be when it comes to catching someone's interest. What time do you want me?"

"The band goes on at 8, sound check should be about twenty minutes earlier, sooo... Say seven, to be on the safe side? Earlier is even better, but seven at the latest." Parker fiddled with her eye protection, and laughed a little breathlessly. "I'm not even performing, and I've got nerves. Stupid."

"Then I'll be there earlier. How early - five? Six? And don't worry, Parker," he said soothingly. "With you in charge, nothing would dare to go wrong."

"Six thirty or so would be fine. I'll be there around then. Unless something does have the audacity to go wrong." Parker pushed her hair out her eyes, and grinned. "But wow, this should be fun."

"Six thirty." Jack nodded. I'll be there. And it's going to be a hell of a lot of fun." He tapped one finger on the grip of the gun and looked at her speculatively. "So, Parker..."

"Yeesss?" Parker folded her arms, lips twitching, recognizing the I-need-a-favor tone.

Jack was trying hard not to smile back at her, feeling this needed a serious face. "If I wanted to acquire a gun of my own, you could help me with that. Right?"

"Of course. Tex has a good supply, we could order pick one up there. Sometime next week work for you? Before things get crazy with Homecoming?" She cocked a brow speculatively. "Why are you looking for one now?"

"Sounds good," Jack replied, leaning back against the counter. "No reason. And no hurry. But I'm getting kind of attached to this one, which will doom me to heartbreak seeing as it's anybody's. If I'm going to be serious about this, I feel like I should have my own."

"Yes, you do." Parker gave him a smile that was half-proud, half-amused. "Defender of the Sam. And the Cedric. Armed and dangerous."

"That'll work. Come find me on Wednesday or Thursday, and we'll stop by Tex's, and get you your own weaspon. Well. Another one."

Jack smirked. "Another one? Why, Parker, I have no idea what you're talking about," he said, aiming to sound innocent and failing miserably.

"Pffttt. Charm and frivolity and sex and blue eyes and do I *have* to go on? I quit." Parker grinned at him.

"I'm always armed and dangerous, is that what you're saying?" Jack laughed and winked. "You might be right."

"Yes. It's just a matter of rate of fire. And can you draw your weapons before they draw theirs?"

"Always." Jack turned back towards the alley and slid one finger along the barrel of the gun. "Firing first, however, is something I prefer not to do."

Parker chortled. "You don't want to take down the opposition too quickly?"

Jack grinned and flashed her a wicked smile. "Sometimes quick is good, but if you go nice and slow, really draw it out, it can be much more effective."

Another chortle, then Parker said, "Mmmm. Then again, you do leave them openings for -- return fire. When you take your time."

"Not if they're so distracted they can't think." Jack was starting to laugh, and he leaned against Parker. "They can't return fire if they can't even remember their name, much less that they have a gun."

"Still, some people recover faster than others. You have to be careful that you don't leave yourself in a position for an unexpected takedown from what *should* be a fallen opponent," Parker pointed out.

Jack just raised an eyebrow at her. "That's never been an issue. Unless you remember something I don't and you want to share it with me?" he asked, grinning at her in invitation.
