Student Council [lunchtime]

Josh was in a fantastic mood.

And no, he wasn't going to tell you why.

When the members of Student Council had walked into the room he greeted them with a bright smile.

"Today we've got a lot of things to get through, but I know you're all anxious to get to the school assembly, so let's see if we can't get through them fairly quickly." He looked around the room. "Homecoming is next week and we need to organize the voting for Homecoming Court, decide what kinds of things need to be included for the carnival, and sell tickets and organize the dance. I have decided that the sophomore class representatives will be in charge of organizing the court, the juniors will handle the carnival, and the seniors will head up the dance."

He grinned at the freshman representatives. "I haven't forgotten about you guys--I'm just letting you be recruited by the other classes if they need more hands."

He linked his hands behind his head and tipped back in his chair. "We also need to elect a president from among you to serve as my chief...staffer. Not minion. Personally, I'd prefer a senior, but it's entirely up to you. Look around the room, decide which of you twelve you'd like to lead, and drop that name into the ballot box on my desk." Josh pointed to it.

"Questions, comments, funny stories?"

ETA: Following the election, Josh tallied the votes. "Congratulations, Alanna," he said, grinning, "our new Student Council president."

"I've never been to a prom before, and Homecoming at my last school was...not normal," Layla replied. "How did prom work?"

"Well, from what I'm given to understand, we don't have normal events at this school either. What happened at your Homecoming?" Pippi asked. "Oh and for Prom it was just king and queen. But I think maybe Homecomming involves a group of people as well as King and Queen."

"Our Homecoming dance was crashed by a supervillain who wanted to kidnap all the adults, turn them into children and train them to be supervillains too," she said simply. "Needless to say, I'm hoping this one will be a little more low-key. As for the Court, I think maybe there's a king and queen nominated for each class, but like, the seniors are the official King and Queen maybe?"

"So like Princes and Princesses for Freshman through Juniors?" Pippi asked.

She didn't comment on the supervillan thing. Though that did rather like the sort of thing that would happen.

Layla nodded. "Yeah, that sounds like it would work. Then everyone could participate, not just the seniors. Even if it is just a popularity contest, it should still be an open contest."

"That's how my school did it," Marie mentioned.

"Oh good, backup for the idea!" Layla grinned. "Was it just like, everyone voted and whoever got the highest votes in each class won?"

"I think people had to be nominated," Marie said, trying to remember. "Like each class could nominate a few people and then the whole school got to vote on who won for each class."

"Do you think we'll have time to do all of that in the next week?" Layla asked, pulling out her calendar to flip through it.

Marie frowned. "I don't know. It wouldn't give people a whole lot of time. Unless they vote for the winners at the dance."

"That might be a good idea." Pippi mused. "Perhaps one of us could put up a post that links the nomination form set up a voting table each day, like a different person every day so nobody's doing it the whole week. And then people vote on a poll the day before as the enter the dance?"

"That could work," Marie agreed. "I could work the table Monday since I don't have any classes."

"I don't have any classes on Wednesday Pippi mused."

JD wanders over to the Homecoming court group, even though he is obviously not a Sophomore.

~~~Sequence~~~
JD is on a raise diase, sitting a very elaborate throne. There is a red, velvet cape over his shoulders and a bejeweled crown on his head. He is holding a scepter and looking out at his subjects regally, which includes Hawkeye by his side, fanning him with a palm frond, and the Tick and Zoe kneeling on either side.
~~~~End~~~

"Do you guys need any help?"

"Hey JD! Did you have a Homecoming court at your last school?"
