Josh was in a fantastic mood.

And no, he wasn't going to tell you why.

When the members of Student Council had walked into the room he greeted them with a bright smile.

"Today we've got a lot of things to get through, but I know you're all anxious to get to the school assembly, so let's see if we can't get through them fairly quickly." He looked around the room. "Homecoming is next week and we need to organize the voting for Homecoming Court, decide what kinds of things need to be included for the carnival, and sell tickets and organize the dance. I have decided that the sophomore class representatives will be in charge of organizing the court, the juniors will handle the carnival, and the seniors will head up the dance."

He grinned at the freshman representatives. "I haven't forgotten about you guys--I'm just letting you be recruited by the other classes if they need more hands."

He linked his hands behind his head and tipped back in his chair. "We also need to elect a president from among you to serve as my chief...staffer. Not minion. Personally, I'd prefer a senior, but it's entirely up to you. Look around the room, decide which of you twelve you'd like to lead, and drop that name into the ballot box on my desk." Josh pointed to it.

"Questions, comments, funny stories?"

ETA: Following the election, Josh tallied the votes. "Congratulations, Alanna," he said, grinning, "our new Student Council president."

Pippi is sitting here NOT weighing the pros and cons of Mercenaries vs Knights thank you very much.

JD sits down next to Pippi, totally putting on the moves.

Gotta be smooth.

"Hi." He looks down quickly.

"Hey JD! What's up?"

"Not much. Freshman didn't get a specific assignment, so I guess I'm just supposed to help out where I can."

You're pretty.

I hope my hair looks ok.

JD absent mindedly patted his hair, which crunched slightly for the gel.

"You should help with the decorations! You're very artistic."

JD blushed. It was not terribly manly, but he couldn't seem to prevent it.

"Do you think so?"

You're pretty.

"Oh yes. The wall painting thing in the common room was brilliant." She nodded. "I'm sure you could help come up with something wonderful for the dance!"

Marie looked a little overwhelmed at how much they had to do in a week and wondered who was going to recruit her to do what.

"Hey you. Ready to overthrow the student government?" Jamie said plopping down beside Marie.

"Sure, why not," Marie said. "I don't have anything else to do this weekend."

"You mean some charming fellow hasn't asked you out on a date yet?" Jamie said looking amazed. "Well gosh, maybe I should ask you out."

"Hmm, I don't know," Marie said with a coy smile. "I have a boyfriend. He might get jealous."

"Pfft. If he's such a good boyfriend he should have asked you out sooner," Jamie said shaking his head. "What do you say? Saturday night? Hanging out? Or is there anything specific you'd like to do?"

"I'm definitely free on Saturday night," Marie said. "Hanging out is fine. I can't really think of anything else I'd like to do, but I'm good with whatever."

"Excellent," Jamie replied with a grin. "I'll make the fifty mile trek from my dorm room to yours then."

"Wow, you must really like me if you're willing to put yourself out like that," Marie said.

"Technically this is only our second date," Jamie pointed out in a mischievious tone. "I won't actually put out until our fourth or fifth date. Even then I better get dinner and movie out of it."

Marie's face was probably redder than Santa Claus's suit and she just sort of stared at Jamie in horror.

Jamie laughed. "Wow. I haven't seen you this read since I recruited the Gomez brothers to sing to you."

"You get some sick pleasure out of making me blush, don't you?"

Jamie put on his best innocent expression on his face. "Who me? Pleasure maybe, but sick?"

Marie rolled her eyes.

"You've been that way pretty much since I met you," she reminded him. "Remember asking those guys to recreate shirtless day for me since I missed it?"

"What? You didn't like that?" Jamie asked jovially. "I had no idea you would turn that color of red. Also I don't see how that makes me a sick person."
