"Good afternoon, class," El said as they entered. "Today we'll be working on something a little different. Our previous few dances have focused on life and passion and energy. They have had steps but allowed for improvisation. Today, however, we shall work on something with dignity and elegance."

He bowed a little. "The Waltz. Now, as you know, one of the most defining characteristics of a waltz is its 3/4 beat, such to the point that anyone with a fairly good ear for music can recognize a waltz almost immedieatly upon hearing it.

"This dance has been with us for hundred of years, so there are, unsuprisingly, many variation to it. We will learn two in this class. International Standard Waltz, or slow waltz is the first. It is slow, dignified, and standardized. It will earn you points in any formal dancing event and is suitable for use in international competition. Nadia, if you would be so kind as to demonstrate with me."

El went through all the steps of the Waltz, showing the class what to do.

"The second type is Viennese Waltz, a faster, more contemporary dance. I thought you might enjoy it a little more."

He demonstrated the steps again with Nadia, broke off from her, and nodded. "Alright, by now, you should know what comes next." He walked over to his guitar case, knelt down in front of it, and pulled it out. "Practice! Practice is the key to everything. All day... every day."

River gave Nadia funny looks. Just to see if she got upset.

Nadia ignored River completely. She wasn't going to let her ruin dance class for her.

"Is everything alright?" El asked, sliding up next to Nadia.

"Fine," Nadia responded, a little distractedly. "Why?"

El shrugged. "You seem distracted. And there appears to be tension between you and River."

Nadia sighed and switched to Spanish. "//River's crazy and might attack at any moment. Though I'm not sure I'm much better.//"

El raised an eyebrow. "//Are you saying she might be a danger to students? She always seemed harmlessly eccentric to me. And do you suggest that you/ are a danger?//"

"//She's attacked with very little provocation before. I've heard that she's better now, or something, but I've been on the wrong end of her attacks more than once.//" Nadia shrugged. "//And this morning, I kind of . . . punched another student for making me angry.//"

El rolled his eyes at the second part. "//That makes you a teenager, not a threat. What happened with you and River?//"

"//She bit me and kicked me for trying to help her. And a few weeks ago, she attacked a whole group of us, and wound up breaking a friend of mine's arm. She also took out several trained fighters while doing it."

"//There was no warning or provacation?//"

"//Nothing. She just started in on Pippi, and when we tried to help, she took us all down.//"

El frowned at the dancing girl in the boots. "//Interesting. I shall have to see about this. You say she took down trained fighters? Who?//"

"//Myself, Pip Bernadette and Peter Pevensie.//"

El nodded. "//I will speak to the adminstration about this. I assume they are aware of this attack?//"

"//I think so. They seem to know about everything that goes on on the island.//"
