Walter had a call from Miss Poppins informing him that she was being called away at the last minute (something about getting her uncle off the ceiling? WTF?) and that it was his duty as TA to ensure that today's class went off properly.

As such he stood in front of the class and waited for everyone to be signed in and seated. And because he was just more comfortable this way, there was a setup of tea, biscuits (cookies for you heathens,) and coffee for those who just can't appreciate the finer things.

"Right, then, Miss Poppins won't be here today, but she left instructions for what we're supposed to do.

"We're reviewing Canine and Dolphin today. Pair off with someone. One of you will select Canine, the other Dolphin, and you will speak only in your chosen language. No English.

"Interview your partner in your chosen language and write down both your questions and your partner's answer in English and vice versa. No peeking at each other's sheets.

"Once that's done, Miss Poppins also wants us to translate nursery rhymes into both Canine and Dolphin. When that's complete, turn in your interviews and your nursery rhymes and you're free to go."

[ooc: Apologies for the lateness of this class posting. I wasn't expecting to do this today, but we've got it under control now.]

Jude looked around nervously for a partner. Oh this was going to be fun.

In a way that was completely no fun at all, of course.

Willow waved. "Hi, Jude. Want to be partnery?"

"Sure, bra!" Jude replied, waving back and not feeling dorky about it. "D'wanna be the dog or the dolphin? I'm bad at both, so I don't care."

"I think I could use more work on Dog if you don't mind," Willow said.

[ooc: here for as long as I'm at work, which is a couple more hours. Okay for SP after?]

Jude nodded. "Sure." He was actually slightly better at dolphin. Something about the mindset clicked.

[[Sorry, was snagged for a Gaelic Cultural Expression Committee meeting. Yes, it was as boring as it sounded. I'm cool with SP.]]

"Okay," Willow said. She tried to get into the right mindset. "So. Um. //Hi, Jude! How are you today?//

[ooc: huzzah for SP!]

//Good!// Jude clicked back after a moment. //How are you?// He didn't mispronounce anything too badly.

Willow looked proud that she'd understood. //Very well, thank you.// She tried to think of something else to say. //How's the soup on a stick?//

When Jude figured that one out, he chuckled. //Still just a dream. It's harder to make than it looks.//

Willow gave him a sympathetic look. //How are things with you and Setsuna?//

Jude shut down. He had been leaning forward, his brow furrowed, concentrating on translating the next thing she said, and as soon as it clicked, he just . . . shut down.

"Can we . . ." He swallowed and switched, painfully, to Dolphin. //Can we not talk about that?//

Willow looked immediately regretful. //Sorry! Sorry! Bad me! Sorry!//

Jude shook his head. //It's fine.// It was hard to sound bummed in Dolphin. "Uh . . ." //How's school?// Limp, but struggling on.

//School is good,// Willow said. //I love all of my classes. How about you?//

Jude was pretty sure he still understood her. He was considerably less enthusiastic now. //They're good. I think I'm doing well.//

//Me too,// Willow said. //I am pleased to be taking five classes.//

//I'm only in four. What's your -// Jude had to pause to rifle through his vocab, //- favourite?//

//I like this one a lot,// Willow said. //And Bio. You?//

Jude thought for a moment. //Abby's class. Uh, BigBig Scary Pod? for Dummies.// It was hard trying to think of how to say 'internet' in Dolphin.

It took Willow a sec to parse it too. //Large invisible net with spiders in it?//

//Yeah,// Jude said, smiling a little. //That works.//

Willow grinned. //I guess dogs and dolphins don't play much with - um. Square boxes that cats like to sleep on.//

She mimed typing on a computer, just to be sure.

Jude chuckled. //I'd give up the square box to live in the water and play all day long.//

Willow looked interested. //Really? I don't know if I could. I love my square box.//

//I could.// He still didn't know the Dolphin word for 'totally'. //Material possessions are unnecessary for true happiness.// He lifted one finger in a dispensing-Buddhist-wisdom-type pose.
