Intro to 21st Century American Culture - Monday - Fifth Period

Lorelai smiled at the students once they'd all entered and taken their seats.

"Morning everyone! Today we're going to learn about dating. It's an important part of the modern high school experience for a lot of students and with Homecoming coming up in a few weeks, I want to give you all the information you'll need to have a wonderful time."

She launched into a short lecture on old-fashioned courtship rituals and how they evolved into modern dating. She also gave out a packet of handouts on Homecoming, Prom, Dating, and Safe Sex.

"Now, I'm going to pair you up and I want you to try asking each other out on dates. In this day and age, it's perfectly acceptable for a girl to ask someone out, so I want both of you to take a turn doing the asking. Marty, Jaye and I will be around to answer any questions you might have."

"You're like Belthazor."

"I'm not. He's not a firebender and doesn't have as much control over the fire," he replied. "Neither do I change faces or have the capability to move from one place to another."

Gwynn looked confused and then her face lit. "Beginning demon?"

Zuko however scowled even more. "Do I look like a demon?" he asked. "I can't change my face." The scar should pretty much prove that.

"Belthazor doesn't look like a demon," she pointed out. "You're just as cranky and terse as he is."

"Belthazor can make himself look like one," Zuko said. "I don't." Except for the part where he has a blue mask hidden in his dorm room that might look demon like.

"That just means that you could be a different type of demon. Maybe it's something that is new and you're not aware of it. Maybe Belthazor can help you."

"I. Don't. Need. Any. Help." Zuko ground out. It really was not a good idea to argue with him about this.

Yep, she needed to get him a sign.

"You are getting cranky."

"No kidding," he snarked.

"You do need a sign."

"What?" Zuko blinked.

"I can get Nadia to make you one."

Gwynn was writing this down in her notebook.

He followed Gwynn's handmovements, his eyes widening just a bit. "I'll set it on fire," he warned.

Gwynn looked up and gave him her brightest smile. He was just like Belthazor. Just like Belthazor meant he needed friends whether he wanted them or not. Guess what Gwynn had decided?

"It will be tasteful... and flame resistant."

Zuko was pretty sure he didn't need any friends.

"I think we are done here," he announced, grabbing his notes and rising to his feet.

Gwynn smiled again. Poor Zuko. He wasn't going to have a choice in the matter since Gwynn had put her mind to this.

"It was nice getting rejected by you."

Because, Gwynn was polite.

Zuk however wasn't and with a short nod, he moved off.
