Dance 2, 5h Period Thursday

"I hope you all had a good weekend," El said as the students filed into the room. "And I suggest that, if you think it would help you personally, that you stretch out a bit. We don't want anyone straining a muscle or anything."

He looked around the class. "Today we'll be discussing the tango. Not the ballroom type, with specific steps, but the Argentinian variety, which is more free form and has, in my opinion, more spirit."

El then launched into a lecture on the Tango, complete with a demonstration with Nadia.

"Now, pair up as best you can and practice. I realize that this is, in some ways, impossible considering the number of boys we have. If you need, I am more than willing to dance with someone. Otherwise wait your turn or dance with another girl if such a thing doesn't bother you. Just remember to switch of leading. Nadia and I will be around if you have questions."

Willow smiled. "Sure! I'll try not to be feet steppy."

"So will I. Specially with the metal one."

"I appreciate that," Willow said. "I've never done any kind of tango before. So on the one hand: pressure for me. On the other: not so much pressure for you. After all, if you screw up there's a very good chance I won't be able to tell."

"Hey I'm in the same boat." The steps he picked up fairly easily, it was the whole, getting it in the right rhythm that was the real learning experience.

Anytime they were standing still he might be tapping his foot to get the beat. And when moving, there might be some head nodding.

Willow, for her part, might've been quietly counting to make sure she didn't lose her place.

"Ready to try something fancy?" billy grinned.

"I'll do my best not to trip," Willow said.

"If you do we'll try to make it look deliberate and cool." Billy grinned. He started the steps for the part El had showed them called the Molinete.

Willow lost the beat at first, but did her best to try to get it back and navigate the grapevine of steps.

Billy managed not to step on her. "Wanna try it again?" he grimaced. That had almost been his metal foot stepping on hers.

"More practice might be the thing," Willow agreed. "It's hard to think and step at the same time. I don't think my brain is fast enough."

"I still tend to think of this in terms of martial arts. Which means, too much thinking gets in the way."

"I've been practicing swordwork with Peter," Willow said. "Maybe I should try to think of it like that?"

"Yeah," Billy nodded. "It has to become reflex, automatic."

"More practice," Willow said with a nod. She got into position again. "Ready?"

Willow waited for him to start, then did her best to try to relax and not think so much.

Billy started the moves again, following his own advice. His feet and legs knew the steps, he just had to trust them.

Willow still faltered, but this time she was better than the last.

Willow resumed trying to follow his lead.
