Cupcakes of the World(s), Friday 1/23 Period 3
“Have any of you been to Germany?” Stark asked. They were meeting in the Home Ec room again, of course. “Today’s cupcakes are from Germany or at least like something you might find in Germany. Black Forest Cake. Black Forest cupcakes. The Black Forest, the Schwarzwäld, is in Germany. I think I said that right.” He hoped he had.
“Black Forest Cake has cherries. And chocolate. And Kirsch, which is alcohol that tastes of cherries because it’s made of cherries. The cherries have been soaking in kirsch overnight. There wouldn’t have been time to do that during class today.”
“Oh! I have a map today.” An actual paper world map that he’d stuck to the wall and stuck a gold star sticker on Australia and another on Germany. Stark pointed at said map. “There’s Australia for last week and Germany for this week.”
“So, we should bake. Or if you like you can just assemble. Or just eat some after I’ve finished putting them together? I have all the components here to put together if you like or you can try and make your own though you’ll likely need more time.” Of course, this was the last class of the day so there would be time for that.
“If you have questions, please ask. Or if you’ve anything to say about Germany or chocolate or cherries, please do…any of it.”
