The Various Gods & You, Monday, First Period

When the students entered the classroom for 'Various Gods and You' they would find that their teachers appeared to be one (1) genuine Norse god and one (1) guy who looked like he wandered in on the way to go hiking. Call it truth in advertising, maybe.

Don decided to open with pure honesty: "We weren't supposed to be teaching this class. The moose did us dirty. So we're all going to be figuring this out together and also, there is a moose." He had seen the moose now. The moose was very real. He had opted not to ask the moose what happened to his anatomy class.

"It wasn't very open to negotiation," Jane admitted with a little sigh. "I'm Dr. Jane Foster. Not a medical doctor."

You know, to differentiate.

Don nodded. "And I'm Dr. Donald Blake, yes a medical doctor, and this is 'The Various Gods and You,' the class where we talk about the gaps between legend and reality and how to deal with gods who are more real and present and not just stories in a book. I, for example, am from a world where several gods, most notably Thor, have demonstrated themselves to be very much real, and interact with humanity in assorted ways." He was also leaving key information about himself out, but, y'know, details. "While Dr. Foster--well, I'll let you tell them," he said to Jane.

"Well, only Thor and other Norse gods have shown up where I'm from. but I've been told apparently there are more," Jane added. Something about a place called Omnipotence City. Which just seemed like making things up as they went. but that was just Marvel, folks. "But today I think... we should start out with getting to know our class and what your experience with this is."

"Yes," Don agreed. "We'll go around and if everyone could please introduce themselves, and tell us a little bit about why you took this class and any previous experience you have with any sort of gods. Maybe what they're like in your universe of origin?" He looked at Jane. "Does that sound good?"

"Perfect," Jane said, giving him a smile in response. Maybe this class would end up okay after all!

"Lieutenant Beckett Mariner," Mariner introduced herself. "They're usually aliens."

Dean was leaning back in his chair like it was a lounge chair. “I’m Dean Winchester. I like long walks on the beach, puppies, and whiskey. Also the gods where I’m from are usually dicks.”

As he headed out, Dean left two shiny apples on the desk for the professors.

Steve grinned and waved at the teachers. "I'm Steve Rogers, and I'm housemates with Thor."

He thought he was very clever.

Dean only caught the “usually” part. “Yeah, mostly low level pagan gods who prey on small towns,” Dean said with a nod. “Though I have met angels, devil, gods from various pantheons. Really I signed up because there might be a list of which gods might be whiny bitches and I wanted to compare notes.”

Amazing!

Steve's smile increased. "Yes, you are. And Jane helped us in the remodeling."

Adrian had also met the moose, after a possum had delivered his class schedule. Adrian also now knew that arguing with the moose was pointless, and you could tell because here he was, sitting in class, instead of putting his house up.

"I know the sca--, ahem, the normal humans in my world have made up various mythologies over the millennia, but I don't know them," Adrian said, a little apologetically. "But I know that Gilgamesh, the King of Heaven, is a real dick."

"Yes," Adrian said, scowling. "He conquered it roughly five thousand years ago and then he and his sons spent the next few thousand stomping out most human magical traditions so the only magic left was the type he controlled. I don't know how much mythology he destroyed along with it, but I'd assume a great deal."

All those poor demons. He'd heard stories of Anchor Markets and--yeah, it was bad.

"Of course not all aliens are gods," Mariner replied. "None of them are. But most 'gods' are just super advanced aliens who decided to mess with the younger species. Which is super not cool."
