Photography Basics: Color - Monday, Second Period [05/27].

"Well, guys," said Prompto, looking pretty tired from his weekend but no less energetic to be there that morning, while also trying not to be distracted by everything else on his plate today, "by now, you should know how this goes! Hopefully, you had a good chance to really explore the color orange as a theme with your photographs and have some really good work to show off, because we'll start with that, and then we'll dive right into the next color we're going to focus on, which is my personal favorite color and adjacent to one of yours, and that's yellow.

"And, so, without further ado, let's see what you've got for last week's assignment, and then we'll look at some good inspo for next week's! Who've we got volunteering to go first this time around?"

It's your time to really shine! Prompto will likely be giving extra praises for anything the deviates from the expected fruit, sunsets, or possibly juice pictures, but he's sure they're all great and is really excited to see what you've come up with for orange and to hearing a little bit about what the focus on the color really inspired in you!

"Now, yellow," Prompto said, once everyone had a chance to show off their pictures and discuss, "might be a color I'm a little biased toward naturally," he gestured toward his very well-groomed, thank you very much, hair, with a bit of a grin, "but also it's sort of developed into a kind of refection of who I am and my personality. Back when I was a student, actually, it was my color in the little 'gang,'" he emphasized the finger quotes with a nostalgic grin and a roll of his eyes, "that included a Blue and a Pink, too, respectively. It's one of the primary colors, of course, and it's usually considered a warm, happy color that evokes brightness and joy. But not always. It's always interesting to see people try and subvert the more popular feelings associated with a color to bring out something else in it, too. After all, Frida Khalo described it as 'madness, sickness, fear...part of the sun and of joy.' So you could say it's got range."

With that introduction out of the way, then, Prompto continued to talk about some of the physcholoy of the color yellow and how it applies to art, especially photography, though he dips into a few painterly things, too. There's a little bit of focus on a French photography named Réhahn and his own thoughts on his personal Yellow Period, followed by a slew of other award-winning examples, as well as some more basic but still striking ones, like John Barclay's The Yellow Dory or more poingently incidental ones like the yellow kitchen in Yan Dobronosov's recent war photography.

And, of course, his own photos of....what else? Chocobos. Even if pulling up some of those did have him feeling a little maudlin by the end of the lecture.

"So?" he said. "Thoughts? Questions? Brainstorming? Or shall I just release you out to enjoy that barbeque today and start getting some really dramatic shots of mustard bottles while you're there?"

Was anyone really surprised that some of Stark's orange themed photos were focused on someone's hair? Didn't think so.

The shot that Arden was proudest of? The picture of a fox face peeking out from some underbrush in the preserve. She also liked her ring of salmon sushi.

...Hers also might have a few shots of somebody's hair in the sunlight but also shut up okay?
