Art in STEM - Tuesday, February 6th

"An airplane is a complicated machine," Steve began, leaning against one of the desks at the front of the classroom, "and a lot of things have to be working together in order for it to stay in the air."

"And, usually, duct tape isn't involved in it," Tony added, wincing a little. "It is essentially a metal tube, hurtling through the air using physics."

Was that meant to inspire people to not be afraid of flight, Anthony?

"With the engines attached to wings and not, say, your feet," Steve said with a teasing grin at Tony.

"There's nothing wrong with my flying!" The many concussions as he learned begged to differ.

Steve let out a non-committal hum in reply. "Most engineers, not as blessed as Tony with an unlimited development budget, have stuck to non-moving wings for their airplanes."

"But, let's pretend you do have an unlimited budget," Tony said, passing out some papers on the science behind flight.. "Let's design an airplane that is both aesthetically pleasing and doesn't fall out of the sky."

"Or have its doors pop off mid-flight," Steve added helpfully. Boeing.
