Shop Class; Tuesday, Fourth Period [01/16].
"Afternoon, everyone," Amaya greeted cheerfully from the front of the class again that week, "and I hope you're ready to get right back into it, because we're going to be learning some pretty important stuff that'll become useful all throughout the class these next few lessons, so pay attention and be attentive, because we're working with real equipment that can cause some real trouble, and I've said it before and I'll say it again, but I've yet to send someone to the clinic, and I don't want that to start now."
Yes, those numbers were a bit padded by the fact that most of the injuries sustained in class had been done so by a Muppet, but she had Graham in her class before, too, so she felt that sort of balanced it out somehow.
"That said, today's going to be all about wood! Now, wood is not my preferred medium; it's with metal that I really shine, but I've been doing this long enough and wood is a common enough element in my bread and butter that I can still share a thing or two about it! So, what we'll do today is go over different types of wood you might work with and what kind of projects they're best suited for, as well as some common techniques and tips in wood working. Once we've got that out of the way, it's on to talking about the variety of different saws available in the shop and how to use them, although we will be focused on particular with a hand saw, the jigsaw, and the circular table saw. Which is a lot, but it's important, and important thing to remember when it comes to building anything is that a solid foundation is the way to go, and you'll never regret taking the time to really work out the finer details before really getting into the fun stuff.
"So, now, to begin with our materials...."

But the main goal is to mostly get to know what you're doing, rather than cutting anything in particular, but if you'd like, some of the pieces of wood have things sketched onto them to cut, or you can plan your own shapes to try and cut. But take your time, focus, and let's not lose any fingers!

The fact that this uncle's name actually is Bob somehow makes it all the more fitting.
Re: Talk to the Teacher - Shop Class, 01/16.
"Good class?" Irene asked, glancing over the materials and tools and taking in the details of the room curiously. She was bundled in one of those cozy plaid trenchcoats she tended to favor, a pair of lightly-steaming cups in her hands.
Couldn't a girl turn up with warm drinks to walk a...close business associate home from school in the snow? Perfectly normal thing to do, if you asked Irene.
Re: Talk to the Teacher - Shop Class, 01/16.
"Good class," Amaya
boldly assumedconfirmed, with a nod. "Always a success working with saws and not having to go to the clinic afterwardsso help me if any of you joss me now I swear to..... Good..." She considered the cups and wrinkled her nose a little as she tried, "coffee shop?"Hey, around here, you never knew, it could have been traumatic! Or at least interesting?

The gesture was appreciated, nonetheless, and Amaya was rewarded with an answering smile.
"It was all right," Irene told her, offering out one of the cups. "No one fought me on my tea order, which is apparently more than some of my fellow Brits can say. But considering it actually, finally snowed a bit, they're probably all-hands-on, now."
Few things were better than a cozy drink when it was all snowy and gross out, after all. (Few. Irene had plenty of thoughts to share about other nice things regarding cold days and things one could do to stay warm.)
Re: Talk to the Teacher - Shop Class, 01/16.
There was a happy sigh with the sip of the coffee, the warmth of it spreading working really well to help cover up the warmth of anything else that might have been spreading right along with it. "Thanks," she added. "This is a nice surprise."
The coffee, obviously. Definitely just talking about the coffee, really....
Re: Talk to the Teacher - Shop Class, 01/16.
The thing was -- she didn't even mind.
(And also, you know, sometimes it seemed like there was an invisible force that kept Irene unable to leave her home on, say, Mondays. Fandom could be so weird like that!)
"If you do get to take her out, can I watch?" Irene ventured, tapping lightly on the side of her own cup as she angled a smile at Amaya. "Maybe we can plow my place out, too?"
And that was one part wanting to see Amaya do her thing, and one part endless fascination and respect towards the Lady Crumbler and her abilities, and always wanting to see her do her thing.

He had the gloves on because protection was important and he was going to try out the jigsaw with some pre-marked wood.
Re: Talk to the Teacher - Shop Class, 01/16.
"I can do you one even better," Amaya offered brightly. "You can help, if you want. Sure, Missus Crumbler's meant to be handled just fine solo, but there's always something an extra pair of hands can do to make things more interesting."
Was any latent innuendo in there intentional?
Well, it was Amaya, so....probably not? It was probably getting a little harder to tell, these days.
Re: Talk to the Teacher - Shop Class, 01/16.
"That sounds like something you'd normally insist was dangerous," Irene commented with a lift of her brows, smiling into her cup as she took a sip.
Like, Irene had been in the backseat of a car with someone before, of course, but now the Crumbler was just going to loom in her mind as a possible untested venue, much like the forge remained.
"But I'd be happy to help." Though she reserved the right to potentially whine a bit, the day of. Just a bit.
Re: Talk to the Teacher - Shop Class, 01/16.
"Oh," Amaya said with a cheerful confidence, "it definitely probably would be, but that's part of the excitement, isn't it?"
The slight bit of whining was, of course, expected, and might even be a bit disappointing if it hadn't made an appearance.
And she may have already begun to think of various ways to make the Crumbler just a bit more teamwork friendly already.

Boldness. Et cetera. (Though maybe there was something to be said for, you know, adhering to safety precautions occasionally. Irene was in no hurry to strip down in this room of saws, for example.)
(Not today, anyway.)

And now he was just kinda...freeforming his wood. Because gloves were as much safety as Beaker was willing to agree to.
