Dice & Danger, Thursday - 2nd Period

There were a lot of books on the teachers' desk when class started. Like, just a lot of books. Because you could hardly DM teach this subject without them, right?

"Hi," Jane said, bolding powering on through this weird topic. "Welcome to our class. It's not the class we expected to teach, but here we are."

Cara looked up from examining a die. Why did it need so many sides? "Apparently adventuring is a complicated business, doubly so when you're only pretending to."

"So, in the spirit of things, you'll be rolling dice to tell us about yourselves. Or, at least, the selves that will be part of this class," Jane said.

"Then maybe tell us a little about the real you, like if you've had any experience with this before." Because your teachers sure as hell didn't.

"It'll be fun," Jane promised with zero proof of this.

"So much fun." Cara it helped if you sounded the slightest bit enthusiastic about it.

"Hi! I'm Gonzo! I'm a . . ." He looked from his dice to the information sheet. ". . . Impetuous Tiefling Barbarian from a deserted island who fights for species equality! And I even know what most of those words mean!"

Belle, 6

"I'm Belle and I've only a small amount of experience with this sort of thing," she said, glancing over at Graham and smiling a little.

"But in here I shall be 'a DISRUPTIVE GNOME CLERIC FROM A LAID BACK BEACH TOWN WHO IS SEARCHING FOR THE KNOWLEDGE OF TRUE IMMORTALITY!' Oh. That seems like a lot to take in. I'll do my best!"

"Hi! I'm Graham! And I'm..."

He lifted up the paper he'd bern working on in front of him at arm's length, squinting a moment before he announced, "a...considerate Dragonborn barbarian.....ooooh....from....a...slave caravan? Oh no! Who was...," he gasped, "forced to watch their family's execution? Oh nooooooo!"

He then lowered the paper with a big grin on his face. "Oh, maaaan, this is gonna be great!"

Beta, with a 14 and a -1 dex mod for 13 ~~unless it's PF2e in which case her +4 perception mod makes that an 18 and that's still weird to me~~

"A Tiefling is a... demon person?" Jane said, totally consulting the books.

"Well, it's a good enough reason to go on an adventure," Jane agreed. She was for sure going to need to talk to Steph about getting those miniatures of the class, wasn't she?

"So . . . like a monster?" Gonzo asked.

Demons weren't much fun. But he could totally get behind playing a monster!

"Two barbarians. Is it supposed to have two barbarians?" Jane muttered to herself, once again checking the book. "But that sounds like a very tragic backstory."

Which was how you made a hero, you know. Heroes don't have living parents. Facts.

"Who is fighting for species equality," Jane added just in case the monster thing would end badly.

It would, but for reasons that no one could come up with at this moment. Probably in a heartbreaking way from the joke character.

"Well sure! Just because he's a monster doesn't mean he can't be interesting!"

Monster rights, Jane! Monster! Rights!

"I'm Vi and apparently I'm an excitable Dragonborn Paladin from the City of Ten Thousand Flags who is running from a marriage arranged by my parents."

Well, it'd make a change from a Tabaxi bard.

Oh, no! But Graham wanted to be a hero! He still had one living parent! This was true tragedy!

"It does!" he agreed, far more happily than anyone should be about such a tragic thing. "I can't wait! Ooooh, can my executed family be a bunch of brothers? I've only ever had sisters, so having my executed family be a band of brothers could be a really fun way to mix it up, you know??"

"Awww, yeaaaah!" said Graham excitedly when he heard Gonzo's class. "Barbarian Brigade! Let's goooooo!"

Speaking of excitable....

Graham let out a gasp.

"Vi!" he said, holding up his sheet as if she might need proof of this amazing thing happening right now. "We're Dragonborn Buddies! Look! This is gonna be amaaaaazing!"

Was Vi's character's personality going to bear a remarkable similarity to Graham? It was entirely possible.

"Looks like," she said. "Do you think they should already know each other?"

"I don't know," Graham admitted, frowning a little in thought as he considered his options, "I mean, I was in a slave caravan and my family got executed, but you're escaping an arranged marriage and the City of Ten Thousand Flags sounds like a very fancy kind of place, so you might actually be a noble or something, and we might be on completely opposites sides of spectrum! Which sounds like it could be full of dynamics, and that sounds very exciting. Two Dragonborn, from different sides of the world! Will they find common ground, or will their disparate origins be too much to overcome?? Find out next week in for another thrilling adventure right here in...."

He gave a dramatic little fanfare of a tune.

"DICE! And! Daaaaaanger! Oooo~ooooh."

Of course there was finger-waggling. Why wouldn't there be finger waggling??

“Yeah!” Gonzo agreed. “Go where? I could use some lunch!”

"Yeah, it might be hard for two people that far apart to get along," Vi said thoughtfully, blissfully unaware of any potential future canon entanglements.
