Sam Eagle Presents: The Weird States of America, Thursday 10/5
“Last week,” Sam began without any preamble (preambles were for constitutions, not for eagles) “we discussed Rhode Island and why it is weird. One of the weirdest things, of course, was its name! This week we shall discuss other weird names in this country!”
Sam gave a long-suffering sigh.
“For example, we have Kansas and then we have Arkansas.” Sam pointed to the whiteboard behind him that was now displaying the two state names. Had it been doing that moments ago? Who could say, really. “Despite their spellings those two states sound nothing alike! This is deeply weird! There is no reason for this nonsense!”
Sam, there probably was a reason you just couldn't be bothered to look it up.
"And then we have South Dakota! South! When it is, in fact, extremely northern!"
The nerve of that frozen state calling itself south!
"Now, students, who else can think of an example of a weirdly named state?"
Or you could defend one of these ones. Whatever worked for you, students. Not that Sam would admit that.
