The Multiverse is F'd, Y'all; Wednesday, Second Period [09/06].

Summer's multiverse class was going to be held in one of the classrooms, but not her Danger Shop classroom simulation, as funny as that always was to her, because they would usually not be staying there for very long. Just a little preamble, until they whisked away to the lesson in question, and this first week was going to be no exception...although they would likely spend a bit more time than usual here today than other classes.

"Hey, everyone," she greeted, leaning against the desk in front and tilting her head with a smile, "and welcome to the revival of my class looking at the multiverse in quite possibly the least comprehensive way imaginable, since, you know, it's kind of infinite, and we're only pulling from my small little infinitesimal sliver of experience. Since there's just the three of you and I know who all of you are, we're going to skip the introductions, especially since, well, you'll have more than enough of those this week anyway, I imagine. I don't know how well you know each other, obviously, but hopefully, if the answer is 'not very much,' that'll change as we work together through the semester.

"Now," she continued, "we are going to talk about what this class is going to entail, first and foremost, though. As I'm sure you all know by now, we live currently in a multidimensional nexus, where a good deal of the people here are from different universes and realities, some similar to the plane of existence in which this version of Fandom University, née High, sits, some wildly different. And if there's anything I want you guys taking from this class, it's this: the multiverse really is infinite; if you can think of it, it exists out there somewhere. You know, kind of like the Rule 34 of Realities.

"If you don't know what that is," she added, her smile going extra sweet, "I suggest you google it only in Incognito Mode.

"But, moving on, we're going to be exploring a lot of really weird, quirky, and, to be quite honest, sometimes disturbing corners of the multiverse in this class, so, in lieu of a normal introduction, I just want to take a moment to get to know a little bit more about what you guys are comfortable with. I'd like to know what your experiences with the multiverse beyond being here on this island might be, what you'd like to know more about, if there's anything that is an absolute no-go that you'd like to absolutely avoid, if you have any allergies, phobias, or just personal hang-ups you'd like to get out there so that I can help avoid some really awkward situations. It...can sometimes be an issue, to have something I didn't know was a trigger sprung on someone suddenly, but I'm learning and doing better, so speak now, or forever hold your piece.

"Well," she amended, "not really. If there's something you're uncomfortable mentioning here now in class, for whatever reason, feel free to talk to me in private or just send a text or email about it, and your privacy will be respected. And, once we're done going over boundaries and things like that for the class, we are going to start out with a little bit of a simple jaunt between two dimensions to showcase how different two seemingly similar dimensions can be. Sound good? Okay. So, who's got some multiverse experience already and who's got some things that mmight be concerns> or, like, hell, if you've got a wish list of things you'd like to see, I'll take those now, too."

Ready to get your portal on.

Summer might not be doing the traditional introductions, but there is a bit of an introduction to the class! And she definitely wants to know, at the very least, what your experiences with the multiverse may be, any concerns or hopes you may have for the class, anything that she should definitely avoid, and, ohgod, please don't be allergic to dogs, she will be very sad if that's the case, but she'll work around it!

"Okay, so," said Summer, once they were all sort of on the same page, or, at the very least, she knew what pages the students were on, and she started to drag out some things that looked like some particularly high-tech space suits, "our first trip into exploring the multiverse is going to be a compare and contrast, to show how the same place can be very different in even relatively similar dimensions. You're going to want to suit up for this first trip, because we are going to this dimension's version of Pluto, hotly contested planetoid on the very, very edge of the Solar System of which Earth is a part of, and very not suited for human habitation, but you'll get to see that for yourself."

Ohhhh, boy, she sure hoped the vast barrenness of space wasn't brought up by anyone in that last section, because that was going to make this section that much more awkward.

"But, don't worry," she continued, passing out the suits and started to gear up herself, "these are state-of-the-art, developed by my super-genius ex, so they'll keep us pretty protected. We're not going to be there long, anyway. You'll see why soon."

Because once everyone was properly suited and checks were made to ensure it, she pulled up her phone and her portalocity app and vwoop!, there was the portal, and then, there they were, stepping out onto the surface of Pluto.

"See what I mean?" said Summer, as she gestured around her. "A whole lot of nothing. Take a few moment, look around a little, just sort of enjoy being on fucking Pluto for a hot minute, and then we're going to hop on over to my dimension's version of Pluto. But for now? Just enjoy the nothingness for a while, I guess, and don't go wandering off, I don't want to lose one of my students on a fucking planetoid on the first day."

So enjoy Pluto, everyone! Sure, it's not much, but at least it's not New Jersey!

"Okay," said Summer, "that's enough of that. Let's head to the Pluto of my dimension. Same planetoid, different universe, and, well...you'll see."

There was then another portal called up and, with stepping through it, the students would find themselves on a planet with a very similar surface and make-up, with a few notable exceptions, which involve instead of the greyish-tan of the last Pluto, this one seemed rather blue and green in color, and it was occupied by something, a city of tall, almost mushroom-like buildings appearing around them, and Summer took a moment to take off the helmet of her suit and breathe in the now completely breathable air.

"This," she said, "is my dimension's Pluto. Home to the Plutonians and a rich research of...you guessed it...plutonium, it is clearly a much more...habitated planet that the one in the universe we just came from. And while the Pluto in that dimension will likely just continue to exist, this Pluto is actually in danger of being mined so thoroughly that it might one day collapse in on itself. Hopefully not today, but, hey, pretty epic first class if we get to witness a planetoid's perfectly avoidable self-destruction! Sort of poetic, in a way, considering how the Earth back in the dimension we came from is going..."

"Anyway, on that bright little note, feel free to look around a little bit and compare. The Plutonians themselves'll probably give us a wide berth, my dad got into this whole thing with the king here ages ago, not to mention all the stuff with the Galactic Federations, but anyway, if you really wanted to talk to one, we can arrange something."

So enjoy a very different Pluto than the one you just saw, and Summer'll summon everyone together once it's time to portal back to Fandom.

If you're not in the class, it might be a little hard to get to her if you want to talk to Summer during it, but she'd definitely around before and after should anyone need her for anything outside the direct focus of the lesson!

Kurt Wagner

"Well..." Kurt said slowly. "I know the multiverse exists and all. I know theres other versions of myself and my team out there. I kinda once met my daughter from another alternate reality...." Yeah that was as awkward as I sounded. " The place I wish i could visit though is the one place I probably can't go... The reality where I can meet the version of myself that is leader of the XMen. That would break reality and all wouldn't it?"

"Hmmm," said Summer, looking thoughtfully at Kurt with her head tilted, "not necessarily. Brain breaking? Definitely. Reality breaking?....that depends. Again, we're dealing with the fundamental issue that there are infinite possibilities here. There's an equal chance that it won't break anything at all as there is that it'll break that reality as we know it. I, for one, have actually encountered many different versions of myself from different realities, and I'm perfectly fine. I can't say the same for the rest of them, but they're all kind of bitches, anyway, so, right out the gate, a lot of them weren't doing too great even before I entered the picture."

Meanwhile, some of them were doing perfectly fine until she showed up, but she didn't need to mention that, now, did she?

"So, like everything in the universe, you don't really know until you know. So that generally makes it a matter of whether or not you feel it's worth the risk."

Charlie Gale

"I know about the multiverse from here," Charlie said, "but pretty much back home I've only heard about visiting other realms. But, no allergies, phobias, or hang-ups that I can think of off hand, so I should be good to go!"

"I've found," said Summer, with a faint snort, "that this class is usually a pretty good way of awakening any latent allergies, phobias, or hang-ups you didn't even know you had, but let's hope that's not the case. I think most of what we get into will be more fun than not, though."

She had been wrong about that before, but Charlie seemed pretty open and willing to roll with whatever gets thrown at her, so Summer was glad to have at least one kindred spirit in that regard on board this semester.

Jonathan Sims

Jon nodded to Summer, who absolutely knew who he was.

"Um. I had only theoretical knowledge of the multiverse before ending up here. Since then I've...well, I've lived here, and learned about others. And...and please no spiders." Or any of his other incredibly numerous phobias, but that was the big one.

"Cats are good."

Did Jon mention agoraphobia and acrophobia? Fortunately those were fairly manageable so long as he didn't look up and think about it for too long.

And the amazement of being on Pluto was doing a lot to counteract that, too.

This was...very different, yes. And fascinating. And after seeing Summer do it, Jon hesitantly took his own helmet off.

And he would absolutely mean to be safe, but the probability of his wandering off was high.

Summer made just a little bit of a face, at that.

"So I guess the alternate dimension where an unfortunate series of events lead to giant space spiders taking over the planet in my grampa's ship's misguided attempt to keep me safe is right out, then," she noted.

Which was a shame, because she was so looking forward to exposing more people to the wonders that actually was fly ice cream.

But, with that disappointing news out of the way, her expression brightened almost immediately to a big, eager smile. "But I'm glad you decided to take this class, Jon. We are going to have so much fun!"

And wasn't that just...encouraging, right?

"Guess we'll find out," Charlie said cheerfully, "at least I'm in good hands."

She was sort of the poster child for just rolling with it.

"Pluto!" Charlie cried out in delight. "Poor former planet." She swung her guitar around because, of course, it was slung over the shoulder of her space suit, and played a few chords - not that they could be heard - and beamed at Summer. "Always wanted to play music on another planet. Oid."

Charlie's helmet was off almost as quickly as Summer's. "This is awesome!"

She was totally going to find a spot and do a little busking, because, yes, this was Charlie. Would she attract any Plutonians? Totally not the point.

Jon paled a bit. "I-I would appreciate skipping that one, yes," he said. "But, um. If you really want to go, if you let me know in advance, I can just stay back."

He was not terribly encouraged, no.
