Blacksmithing Basic; Monday, Second Period [06/12].

"Morning, everyone," Amaya greeted the class this week with the usual nod. "Today, our focus is going right back into finishing up those hilts and handles we started up last week. By now, you should be ready to cut your wood block to form for your handle. You'll want to be careful, of course, and take your time with the cutting so you've got a nice shape ready to go for when we spruce it up a little with some rasping and smoothing, sanding and staining.

"For some of you, these finishing touches may take a while. For others? Not so much. So if you do finish a bit early, we can get started on the sharpening and refining the blade and other last minute touches we'll be using the last class to really focus on. Or, if you like, feel free to use the rest of the time to get back to the anvils again and just sort of work some metal around, since it's been a hot minute. Let me know if you have questions and....let's get started."

Rasping, Smoothing, Sanding, OR Staining!

Since Amaya wants to give everyone plenty of time for the finishing project both today and next week, she's keeping it very brief and simple and to the point (HA!) today with the last of the woodworking, especially for her.

Finish carving out your handles and polishing them up, as well as fitting them to your swords! And maybe, if you've got enough time, you can work a little bit of metal to fit into them or Amaya has a few other little gems and other details you can dress up your hilts with if you feel so inclined.

She looks a bit thoughtful in class today, mostly just trying to think of how to give this class a good spin for the next part of the summer session.

Beaker

Dwight Hendrickson

Dwight had managed to catch up fairly easily from that missed class. Was easy when it was a fairly simple knife he had been working on for the class. Practical and nothing too fancy. So he was taking some time to make sure everything was good and to his liking while he had the time to make any adjustments.

Stark

Stark was very carefully polishing his wood today once it was the shape he wanted. Or at least close enough to that shape that it would do.

He would have liked some decorative elements and was eyeing them speculatively, unsure if there was time or if they would even work.
