Non-Deadly Heroics, Monday, Period Two

Isabela and Aphra had taken advantage of it being a lovely day at the tail end of Summer to hold their first class of what had clearly resulted from a deep and personal betrayal by the moose on the beach. With a lovely bonfire burning beside them. No, they would no be answering any questions about what was fuelling the fire. Or asking any for that matter if anyone wanted to add their own fuel.

"Welcome, everyone, I'm Isabela, the dashing pirate captain, and this is my good friend Doctor Aphra the equally dashing rogue archaeologist," she said, bowing and dramatically flourishing a hand in Aphra's direction. "And together we'll be teaching you all about Non-Deadly Heroics." For some reason.

"Think of it as learning pragmatic ways to save the world without dying in the process," Aphra said. "Because boy do people seem to need it. Also there are lots of threats in a galaxy, can't fix the next one if you're dead because of the first."

"Anyway, since it's our first class, we'll be having introductions, name, class, and a time you did something people might consider heroic without dying!"

Or just throw more stuff on the fire, your teachers won't judge.

Charlie Gale

Charlie had definitely thrown the giant satchel that simply read The Aunties into the handy bonfire and considered tossing her phone in too.

Still she was relatively baggage free at the moment.

"Hi, Charlie Gale, freshman, and I'm pretty sure my Aunties signed me up for this class." She was going to go Wild one day.

Graham Cracker

Alara Kitan

Graham, it would seem, had very little emotional baggage with him at all, which....probably wasn't that surprising, to anyone who really knew him. All he pretty much carried with him was a satchel of Fear of Not Living Up To His Potential and a little wheely-case of Father's Untimely Death.

All the good stuff, in this regard, was still to come later in life.

So he was just sort of wondering what the big deal was with all the luggage as he shrugged a little, smiled at everyone, and waved his hand.

"Hey, everyone! My name's Graham, Graham Cra--"

A tiny little pouch seemed to fall out of the sky, landing right on Graham's noggin, at that precise moment, startling him a little as he caught it and read Socially Stunted on its front.

"Huh," he said, opening it up to see if there were at least any jewels or coins inside, which there was not so he just sort of shrugged again and tucked it away into his cloak.

"Anyway, I'm Graham, I'm a sophomore, and, oh, I've done plenty of heroic things without dying! I'm pretty sure most of us here have, otherwise we wouldn't be here right now, on account of, you know, dying, but I know that doesn't really necessarily mean you couldn't also be here, but there was this one time, I helped a chicken cross the road! But do you know why it had to cross the road?"

Graham.

Graham, no.

Beta

Beta would not be throwing anything onto the fire, thank you; she'd never really gotten any physical exercise for most of her life, which had been on a spaceship, for starters, and getting used to Earth gravity was still a work in progress. Throw in what said life on the Odyssey had been like and lifting most of that baggage just wasn't going to be happening.

"I'm -- I'm Beta," she said falteringly, staring down at her hands. "Junior. It seemed like... a relevant skillset to acquire."

Because the deadly heroics were Aloy's department.

"Yeah, aunts, am I right?" asked Aphra, the only child of two only children.

Isabela grinned.

"I don't know, why did the chicken cross the road?"

Graham, yes.

As far as Aphra was concerned, deadly heroics were always someone else's department.

"Good plan, kid."

Terra Harvey

"Terra Harvey, sophomore, and- well, I've lived a whole year in this world. There's those back home who might consider that... well, perhaps not heroic, but foolishly brave."

Never you mind that besides school trips she'd not set foot off this extremely peculiar island.

"Hey, I was a student here once too, sweet thing," Isabela said. "You would not believe some of the things that went down."

Why? Why did you all continue to encourage him like this?

"Beak-cause he could!" Graham answered, grinning from ear to ear and looking far too proud of himself.

Because Isabela lived for chaos.

"Oh that's a good one," she said, clapping her appreciation.

Harry Potter

"Harry Potter, I'm a senior." Still weird to say. "I faced different manifestations of a dark wizard every June for years."

He could be casual about it now.

"My aunts aren't too bad, but the Aunties, I mean, they're a lot," Charlie said.

The jungle print bag reading Wild popped up next to her, so she shoved it under her chair.

Isabela visibly perked up when she realised Harry was in the class, but luckily for him, Aphra got there first. "Huh, usually the invasions are in April and August."

Because the date was the bit that stood out there.

"Thanks!" said Graham, beaming all the more because he'd gotten applause for that one! Applause!

"I've got another one," he said, almost singing it out, grinning as he leaned eagerly toward what had now been locked in, he was sure of it, as a willing (and, more importantly, appreciative audience). You only had yourself to blame, Isabela.

"Why did the horse cross the road?"

“I’m Alara Kitan and I’m a junior and - “ her voice trailed off as two large trunks with ‘not as good as Solana’ and ‘not smart enough’ appeared.

She sighed, distracted and effortlessly tossed them both into the fire.

Belle

Belle's baggage was tasteful, at least, if a bit fairytale-looking. Especially that 'Dead Mother' one. Well, maybe the one about Five that she kept turning around so the numeral wasn't visible wasn't tasteful. It was more old and battered.

"My name is Belle, I'm a senior now, and I'm not sure if I've been heroic yet. I haven't died yet, at least. I'd like a chance to be heroic."

That was part of why she'd come here. There was even luggage to that effect.

Isabela was all about the terrible puns and jokes, so she hardly considered that a bad thing. "Was it following the chicken?"

"Oh, good throw." Isabela definitely sounded impressed.

"Don't worry, kid," Aphra said, even as Isabela was looking between Belle and Harry in what could only be called delight. "There's plenty of opportunities for that here, and most of them won't get you killed."

"No," Graham said, but with a grin that showed he was delighted by Isabela's guess....or that she'd even guessed at all.

"He just wanted to visit his neeeeigh-bor."
