The Art of Napping, Extreme Edition; Monday, Second Period [05/09].

For their very first meeting, this Art of Napping lesson would not be nearly as extreme as one might think from the title of the class, but the amount of pillows in the room would easily fit that description. Not the lounging, decorative, sitting pillows that would usually adorn Shunsui's classroom, although there were a few of those, set in a circle in the middle of the piles of pillows like a sea of clouds. All different types and sizes, even historical ones that were decidedly not as soft and fluffy as some of the others. And Shunsui sat, legs folded in front of him, pouring himself a cup of tea from the teapot set before him, and gestured as the students came in.

"Ohayō gozaimasu, my fellow nap enthusiasts ♥," he greeted them with a sort of lazily cheerful drawl. "Come in, come in, have a seat ♥! If you're anything like me, then our particular decor of choice for the day is already getting you in the mood for napping, but there are just a few pesky little housekkeeping things to take care of first ♥. But I do have some nice, relaxing, sophoriphic chammomile tea for you to enjoy if you so desire, so, please. Have a cup, get comfortable, and we shall begin ♥."

And once it seemed that, for the most part, everyone had managed to do just that, he got things underway. "Welcome, of course, to the Art of Napping, Extreme Edition, although that part will come in our following sessions, not so much today ♥. Today we will merely be getting to know each other and getting to know our preferences with that ever-important napping factor of what pillow you may be usuing ♥. This will be our only meeting here in the classroom; all others will involve a bit of travel, so I hope your adventuring spirit is in good relations with your napping one ♥.

"But today? Good tea, good company, good pillows ♥. I would like us all to take a moment to introduce ourselves, maybe tell us a little bit about your napping experiences, and perhaps if you already have some experience with extreme napping, let's hear about that as well ♥. If anything, I'd like you to try to think of what your own personal most extreme nap may have been ♥."

He took a sip of his tea and sent his contentedly sleepy gaze around the circle.

"Any questions before we begin ♥?"

Soft and fluffy!

Find a seat, get comfortable, and have some tea while listening to the very intentionally low rumblings of the teach explaining a class about napping completely straight and seriously, and get in some questions you may have about that now before you really get in deep with the pillow talk.

"Well, then ♥," Shunsui smiled once it seemed they were ready to get to the arduous tasks at hand, "allow me to start us off ♥. My name is Shunsui Kyōraku, and I will be your expert guide through the blissful and useful Art of Napping ♥. I have...oh, thousands of years," he flashed a small smile at that, "of experience, and not to brag or anything, but my expertise does come from a place of not only deep knowledge and personal experience, but also considerable passion of the art ♥. I'm proud to say that there have been a great many places I've managed to sneak a nap in, but I had to choose just one as a most extreme example, I do believe I'd have to go with at least one of the countless times I've managed to...slip one in amid battle ♥. After all, it's important to stay well rested for such things, neh ♥?"

There was a soft, wistful sort of sigh in remembering some of those very nice battle-naps before his eyes swept around the room. "And who would like to go next ♥?"

"Wonderful ♥," Shunsui smiled again, finished off the last of his tea, and set down his cup before making a bit of a show of pushing himself up to his feet with a slightly complaining groan as if it actually took effort to do so. "Now that we all know each other, let us move onto our focus of today: the pillow ♥. Now, for an expert napper, the pillow at one's disposal should not make much of a difference; an expert napper can sleep with any pillow, or, more commonly, no pillow at all ♥. I, for one, actually prefer to simply use my arms as pillows, to the point where Using Arms as My Pillows is actually the title of the enticing photo book of me put out by none other than the ever lovely Shinigami Women's Association ♥. But for some, the art of Arm Pillows is less developed, and that is why we have so many options for pillows available to us today ♥.

"Do you like a small pillow? A large one? A softer one or one more firm? Perhaps," something in his smile almost made it seem like he wasn't strictly just talking about pillows now, "you like a variety of pillows, all at once or just depending on your mood ♥. Well, today's your chance to try an assorment of different pillows to find out which one suits your napping needs best. Grab a few, give them a try, see what's best, and I'll be sure to let you all know when the period is finished in the event that you do reach that perfect pillow-nap equilibrium ♥."

There was a good chance that, today, at least, it might not be so easy, but at least you'll be comfortable while you try.

"Happy hunting ♥!"

What did it say about a man who was already looking forward to being finished with his nap class so that he could go and...take a nap?

I tend to sleep on a small corner of my pillow because while I sleep, one of my cats takes it over as his bed, and I am too weak to stop him.

Graham Cracker

Graham wasn't quite sure he liked the tea very much, but it seemed a little rude not to have some, and, besides, most of his attention was just sort of marveling at the mountains of pillows surrounding them and the odd tickle in the back of his brain that made him feel like this was a phenomenon that might actually come up again sometime in his future.

Odd.

But, either way, he was so eager and excited to hear about everyone else's exploits and answers that he blinked a little and started in surprise when he realized it was his turn to go.

"Oh! Hello!" he said. "My name is Graham! Graham Cra--"

It was just then that a pile of pillows had collapsed in what was quite possibly the softest clatter ever, but it was enough to cut Graham off and distract him a moment before he continued.

"I've actually never been one for naps," he admitted, almost sheepishly, with a look of apology toward the instructor, "but I can see how they might be useful, so I'm excited to see what I can learn! I can't say I've had many extreme naps before, but I have fallen asleep while riding my trusty steed Triumph before, would that count?"

Graham had managed to find a massive floof of a pillow, easily bigger than he was, practically a mattress in its own right, and conspicuously about the same size and width of Triumph. He had his arms wrapped around it as he carried it into an open spot like a prize, and then fell, with it between him and the floor, into it with a contented sigh.

This was definitely his kind of pillow!

And he was just going to lay there happily on it waiting for that nap to kick in.

Llewellyn Watts

Gray

"Llewellyn Watts," he introduced himself. "I'd hardly consider myself an expert in the field of slumber, but I do enjoy a good restful snooze now and again."

"I'm not sure I would trust anyone claiming they didn't ♥," Shunsui noted with a dismissive wave of his hand and a beatific smile. "Here's to hoping this class brings you that much closer to such an illustrious goal, or, if not that, then at least a few new exceptional napping experiences in your repertoire ♥."

"Ohayō gozaimasu, sensei," Gray said. He was willing to bet he had more experience in the field than Shunsui, although he was...not quite as enthusiastic about the situation. "I'm Gray, and I have also fallen asleep in the middle of a battle." He found it more terrifying to look back on than a fond recollection, though, so maybe he still had some stuff to learn. He considered. What could he top that with? "Also, in midair." Yeah. That was also not usually fun.

Gray had absolutely no preference when it came to pillows, but he guessed he could pick out a nice one while he had the opportunity...oh, they were all so soft and nice and...yeah he was out.

Well, when Shunsui engaged in battle-naps, they were quite intentional and done so that he didn't have to fight until someone came around and kicked him back into action.

He chuckled, though, at Grat's answer. "So ka ♥?" he asked, his grin now amused. "Then I may have finally met my match ♥! Whenever I attempt to nap mid-air, I find myself ever the victim of gravity."

Which was always a bit....novel, considering.

"Perhaps you might even teach me something there ♥. Although we will very likely get as close to sky-napping as...most people are likely to get at some point ♥."

Graham, still belly-down and limbs splayed on his Triumph-sized pillow, was far too excited to even think about actually napping, so when he saw his roommate over there getting comfortable, he grinned.

"Hey, Gray! Isn't this class great? We are going to learn so much about--"

It was at that moment that he realized Gray was already asleep and he winced. "Ooops!" he said, now whispering. "Sorry! I didn't realize you were alrea--"

He seemed to realize that Gray probably couldn't hear him, though, and just shook his head in awe.

"Zounds," he gushed, "you are going to do so good in this class!"

He was going to have to make sure to nap real hard to even think about being able to catch up!

"Oh, I definitely am a victim of gravity," Gray said. "Usually one of my brothers has to catch me."

"Those are very good brothers to have, indeed, then ♥," Shunsui chuckled. "I usually have to depend on the ground for that ♥."

Which was fine. He was stupid resilient.
