Intro to Mechanical Engineering - Wednesday, 1st Period

“Good morning,” Goose began when everyone was seated and ready to begin that day’s class, “today we’re going to be looking at strength of materials, which lets us look at how how materials respond to dealing with particular loads,” he explained, going through a few different examples and how they specifically related to mechanical engineering.

“For today’s practical, we’re going to be working on rubber band helicopters to highlight the stress of the materials and see how far we can propel the helicopters,”

Jo was definitely finding this activity to be a bit more challenging and was finding it difficult to try and attach the right pieces together, so she wasn’t making much progress at all.

It took Sakaki a while to sort of get the hang of putting together her helicopter, if only because she kept losing her rubber bands when they'd go flying out of her hand when she attempted to incorperate them into the model. But she was clearly determined to get it, and, eventually, she would succeed, with a helicopter that really looked like it had been cobbled together hastily, but, against all odds, seems to somehow manage to work just fine.
