Great Legends of Hyrule; Wednesday, Third Period [03/09].

As the students gathered in the classroom that week, it was evident that Sidon was very excited to get into this week's Legend, eager for everyone get get settled in, and flashing them his usual toothy grin as they did so.

"Allow me," he began, wasting no time, "to set for you a scene!

"You have been traveling the great plains of Hyrule Field, deftly avoiding the ever watchful eye of the Guardians, vanquishing bokoblins with ease, and you settle in for the evening with a warm fire and a view of the ever-impressive landscape. The warm glow of the sunset has faded, faded," and Sidon's voice faded quietly with it, into nearly a whisper, as he leaned forward toward the class, "darkened into a black and almost moonless night, with but the light of a slim cresent in the sky. It is still. It is quiet. It is dark....until...suddenly!" Here Sidon's voice rang back out again, like the very burst of light he was about to describe. "In the distance, a light suddenly pierces up through the night from the top of the nearby Satori Mountain, an eerie blue-green illumination, enveloping the peak like a flame! It is a glow that is the same color that illuminates many of the luminous stones scattered around Hyrule, the same glow said to denote the spirits of the deceased and departed! What is this strange glow, eminating from this single mountain in Hyrule's vast landscape? Well! That is what we are going to be talking about today!

"The glowing light on the top of Satori Mountain is truly a beautiful sight, should you be lucky enough to catch it, but few people truly know what it signifies. Some say the mountain is quite cursed, others claim it a place of blessing and magic. Most people who have managed to travel there find a difficult terrain, one with not only jagged rocks and sharp peaks, but also a great bounty of resources, particularly mushrooms, as well as, toward the top, a truly serene and peaceful pool underneath a blossoming tree of the most pale pink blossoms of a cherry tree, a spot of respite, a spot of mystery, where the woodland creatures of the mountain are said to gather and pay homage to the true source of this mysterious blue light: the Lord of the Mountain.

"Now! Very few people even claim to have ever seen this Lord of the Mountain," Sidon continued. "I know I certainly haven't, and there are doubts surrounding those who say they have. But old tales and legends speak of a great and magestic stag-like creature with a long and flowing mane and frond-like antlers that are said to be remnicent of those like the blupees we discussed in a previous class. In fact, with a similar glow, blupees are said to be directly related to the Lord of the Mountain. Are they his loyal subjects? His children? Somethihng else? No one truly knows. Which is what makes the Lord of the Mountain such a compelling legend, indeed!

"Some say that he is the spirit of an ancient sage tasked with protecting Hyrule Kingdom and the animals of the forest, which is perhaps why so many have flocked to his shrine spring even at its trecherous heights! After all, at the foot of the mountain, awash in the Regencia River, is a place known as the Sage Temple Ruins; it would certainly make sense, then, that this is where the Sage that became the Lord of the Mountain once carried out his duties before commiting his soul to the mountain beneath which he worked! And some even claim that the skeletal minions of the Great Calamity that usually plague those particular peaks are all but vanished when the mountain glows with the Lord's fire, and it becomes a safe haven for all creatures good and kind in his presence! As a matter of fact, most of the time, people will say that Satori Mountain is a dark and dreary place, littered with the bones of fallen Hylians and bokobins alike, many of the trees barren and stripped of life. Except when the glow is present, and that is truly when the mountain teams with life again, with a wide variety of different creatures and birds and even plantlife unlike anywhere else in the entire world. They say that the Lord of the Mountain calls to the souls of the animals, and they are eager to join him on his holy mountain! Is there something more to this balance between life and death? Or is it merely coincidence? It's also interesting to note that many hunters who hope to seek out a heavy bounty when the mountain glows have often been chased away from the mountain, some claim by a great beast that fits the description of the Lord of the Mountain, but those who go to hope to merely glimpse the phenomenon report no such encounters.

"So! What are your thoughts? Do you suppose the Lord of the Mountain is a real creature that roams Satori Mountain and protects it? Is it a spirit of the forest or a long-gone sage still tied to the land? What of the rumors that sighting the Lord of the Mountain may actually bring a curse, or that venturing onto the mountain when it glows would do the same? Are there any similar legends that you know of in your own worlds of such creatures? How do you think they relate? And most of all..." Here, Sidon paused for a moment to chuckle, "what would you do if you encountered such a magnificent beast?"
