Library, Saturday

Outside, there were singing and dancing penguins skating around the pond.

Inside, any book that could even vaguely call itself penguin-related (so... ornithology texts, children's story books, even an unauthorized biography or two of a certain universe's supervillain) was doing much the same.

The library was open, and offering free entertainment today!

I need to set myself a reminder to post this, because I definitely forgot for a couple weeks oops.

Billy wasn't much a reader. He would be the first to admit that academics had never bene his strong point. And well, life for the most part had not given him a lot of free time for pleasure reading. But he needed information and with only a few limited sources on the island that he could tap into, he figured couldn't hurt to see if there was something in one of the books that might at least shed some light onto his current dilemma. So, there he was, walking up to the librarian's desk.

"Hey there," he said with a slight smile. "I was wondering if you could help me find a book or two?"

Terra had been rather absorbed in the penguin-books' performance, so it took her a moment to process what Billy had asked.

"Hm? Oh! Of course. Yes. That's what I'm here for!" she smiled brightly at him. "What sort of books did you have in mind?"

"Well, that's where it gets a little... complicated" Billy said rubbing the back of his head. "Do you know anything about holo-suite technology or anything similar? It's all completely new to me so I am not even sure where to begin looking" he explained with a somewhat sheepish grin. "Tech in general is not really my strong suite unless it involves weapons and shooting things."

Terra gave him an apologetic frown in return. "I'm afraid not," she told him. "It's not really my strong suit either; my world uses magic for most things."

Yes, they had cell phones and TVs and computers and all that... they were just all powered by magic. Somehow. Don't question it.

"Ah well maybe you can point me in the direction of a probable starting place in here?" Billy asked with a reassuring smile.

He considered her for a moment before adding "Heck, the holo-suite stuff may be magic for all I know. Most of this" he said waving his hand around to signify the island in general "is all totally new to me."

"Tell me about it," Terra laughed. "Even coming from a world with magic didn't quite prepare me for this place."

"The computers are always a good start," she continued, gesturing towards where they were situated. "You can search our book catalogue, and if that doesn't turn up anything, I'm sure there must be something on the internet." A beat. "Although, you have to be careful with the internet; since anyone can post something with very little effort, the information's not always reliable."

"Appreciate the help" Billy said with a nod. "Sounds like a good place to start, though I agree about being careful of what sites you go to and trust. Been on the bad side of some government organizations in my time, so pretty much everyone can put on a face for the public eye."

Well, that last statement earned Billy a sidelong, careful look from Terra. She'd been raised in the relatively sheltered confines of one of her world's premier magic schools (and yet, here she was, going to an entirely different school in the years leading up to eventually being old enough to start at Alfea), she'd never met anyone who'd 'been on the bad side of some government organizations' before!

"Huh," Terra said, having logged in to a computer of her own. "Holographics... sounds like something the light fairies might do, back home. Visual illusions and the like."

"Yeah... augmenting reality, projected reality, all that good stuff..." Billy said with a shrug as he sat down at one of the nearby computers. "Which I didn't even think was really real until I cam here...."

"So are you looking for general information about the technology, or something more like... an operator's manual?" Terra wondered.

"If you could track down some kind of user's manual or something that would be great" Billy said with a nod. "The Holo-Suite is actually in the Surf Shop I... ummm... evidently now own. So figuring out what it was for or how to use it would be a good thing I would think," he chuckled as he gave Terra a smile.
