Just in case they didn't get the message that Ignis had sent out, there was also a note on the Danger Shop door that morning to let the students know to actually meet their trio of hapless instructors outside the school that morning, where it was very clear that whatever they were about to be doing that day was mostly Gladio's idea, as he seemed to be grinning and full of energy and eagerness to get started.

So once all the heads were counted and it was time to start, he clapped his hands together to get everyone's attention.

"Okay!" he boomed, and probably would have sounded a little like a drill instructor if it weren't for the cheerfulness. "So! We're going to try something a little different today. We're testing out a theory, sinc eit seems that the danger shop just keeps giving us chocobos, so we might be able to focus on things a little better if we take things outside of the danger shop. And outside in general. It looks like it's going to be a beautiful day, we've got this great vast preserve here right outside the school, so today? We're going hiking!

"Three things/rules!" he continued, lifting up a hand so that he could count them off with his fingers. "Number one: don't branch off alone. Stick with each other or with a partner, and keep in mind that there's almost as many of us," he gestured toward his coteachers, "as there are you guys, so even if you try, we're going to be right there on you. Number two: don't get lost. Which will be hard to do if you follow number one, but we've also got some maps and compasses to help you out. And number three..."

This was where he paused to look back and nod toward Prompto, who, blinking himself awake a little bit, bounced into action, grinning sheepishly as he tossed small cameras gently to the students. "Take pictures!" he said. "There's a whole idea in hiking about 'taking only pictures, leave only footprints', which is, you know, because you shouldn't disturb nature too much and you shouldn't leave your crap everywhere, so, in the spirit of that, while you're on your hikes, we want you to keep an eye out for cool or interesting photos to take so that when we get back, we can share our experiences! These cameras are pretty cool, they'll let you print out the pictures instantly, but just be careful, because they're rentals, and I do have to take them back at some point hopefully still in one piece! If you want me to go over how to use them before we head out, hit me up. But other than that...."

He grinned over at Ignis, who made a gesture toward the preserve waiting for them.

"Let us begin our trek," he said, "into the great wild wonder."

Go take a hike, man!

There's fresh air, the promise of sunshine, and a morning in the woods ahead of you! What's not to love? But if you have any questions about the hike, the hiking gear, the cameras, or anything else, now's the time to ask!

Into the woods we go! Stick together or break off into pairs, so long as you stick around with someone, instructors included, marvel at the alots, try to snap a pic of a teal deer, and just generally enjoy (or lament!) the utter lack of chocobos.

Before they set off, Gladio informed everyone to be back at the school by a certain time, and he'll definitely go track you down if you're not back! But, assuming you make it, there's still some time to chat about your experience or share any pictures that might have turned out pretty well or possibly raise some worrying concerns because you touched a plant and now your skin is turning red and itchy or brightly purple polka dotted....

Should any of them be needed for individual attention!

This is Gladio in his element over here, though he is a little disappointed that the island seems to be a lot less cluttered with random potions and other items scattered about in the wilderness.

Having had previous experiences in losing students in the wilderness of the preserve before, Ignis in particular has been keeping a close eye on the class. Even though there are some he is quite confidence would not have an issue with being out on their own, he feels it's important to keep everyone on an equal level in this case.

Prompto already blasted through his camera's paper not even halfway through the class, so it's a good thing he's brought along plenty more, especially if any of the students end up being as much of a shutterbug as he is!

I love a class where I can actually use the multitude of 'chocobros walking and standing around outside' icons fittingly!

Because there are a lot of them!

Kiem had done a lot of hiking when he went to school on Iskat, and the wilderness there was quite a lot more challenging than in Fandom, and not only because of the wildlife.

"Everything is cute and furry here!" he exclaimed, before turning to the nearest teacher. "What's wrong with the birds, by the way?"

"There's nothing wrong with the birds," said Ignis, who, lucky for Kiem, was the nearest teacher, as he passed over a glance toward Prompto not too far way and knowing full well that if he didn't say anything first, Prompto would glomp right onto it and then they'd never hear the end of it and probably frighten away any chance of seeing any other wildlife, "as a whole, but it is getting a little frustrating when we keep trying to make plans for the danger shop only to have them get in the way. In a way, though, this is also an experiment. Chocobos are not at all native to this planet, so if any show up while we're out and about in the natural habitat of the island that has previously excluded them, we'll know that there's something a bit more afoot than merely glitches in the Danger Shop programming."
