Blacksmithing Basics; Friday, Third Period [06/25].

"Morning, everyone," Amaya greeted the class with her standard nod, her little crooked smirk. "Welcome to your last class in blacksmithing! I mean, unless any of you are interested in pursuing any of this further, in which case, you know where to find me, I'll be happy to help. Today's going to be pretty simple, we'll just be putting the finishing touches on those handles and those blades, sharpening them up and maybe, if you're feeling inclined, giving them a few tests with the targets and dummies I've got set up in that corner of the shop.

"Today's also a day," she added, "where, if you want to just sort of get back to the meat of the art and just hammer out some metal and see what you get, practice your different edges or what have you, I'm all here for it. Basically, this class if for you to really hone what you'd like to take away from your time here. So, with that, grab your gear and let's get going!"

Not phoning it in at allllll, really!

Finish up those daggers! Get back to the forge and the anvil and hit the crap out of things! Ask Amaya any lingering blacksmithing questions! Whatever you'd like to squeeze in for the last day, now's your chance!

She's definitely there to be talked to! This class would be much different if she wasn't!

Yeah, no, my brain was not having it this morning, I'm talking alllll the phoning in for this one!

Seivarden Vendaai

Seivarden didn't have much hope for her dagger, but she still held it out to Amaya.

"So, how is this for a first attempt?"

"Honestly?" said Amaya, as she took the poor excuse for a weapon and looked it over closely, before handing it over. "Not that bad for your first time!"

It could have been so, so much worse.

Then she grinned. "It's actually not that bad at all," she said."Maybe next time you can tackle a sword!"

Did she mostly just want to bring up swords with Seivarden?

Maaaayyyyybeeeee.

Seivarden looked at her. "Would you really like to see the result?"

Amaya took all of two seconds to consider that before declaring, incredibly earnestly, "Yes, actually, I would!"

The curiosity about how the whole thing would turn out alone...!

Beaker

Beaker was indeed hitting the crap out of things! Sometimes it was even his dagger and not just his hand or the anvil!

And every time Beaker managed to actually strike that dagger, it was like a strike of pride in Amaya's heart.

There was a pause.

"Fine. When I get back from home you can teach me. I'll bring you another gun."

Amaya had to smirk, more for the offer of the gun than the promise of a sword.

"Are you going to flip out like a three-year toad in a boiling cauldron when I start to dismantle that one, too?" she wondered, folding her arms somewhat snugly in front of her.

"No, it's a gift," Seivarden said, smirking back. "Yours to experiment on."

Giving Amaya a gun would be a way to refuse to acknowledge the enjoyment Amaya would get from Seivarden just agreeing to this.

"There's just one other thing."

Well, that was enough to quirk a brow!

"I'm listening...." said Amaya, chin lifted with intrigue.

"If I do this, then no fast forwarding past certain parts of entertainments."

Seivarden guessed she didn't need to make a sword to get that to happen, but still.

Amaya's eyes narrowed in suspicion. "'This' being the sword?" she wondered. "Or the bringing me a new gun to poke at?"

"Both," Seivarden said with a wide grin.

"Oh, come on!" Amaya's hands immediately went up, because that was the answer she'd expected, so her response had been locked and loaded, and theemn one finger lifted in an accusation. "That's not a fair bargain, and you know it! Building a sword'll be good for you, and who knows what'll happen with some good poking at a gun! But there ain't nothing good about having to sit through..." Her face twisted in a displeased, mildly disgusted expression, "those parts!"

"What good can come of a sword?" Seivarden said. "And you can see this as a challenge."

"We've been over the good that can come out of a sword before," Amaya countered, determined, "especially with the pointy end! Not to mention the pride that comes along with making things with your own two hands, Seivarden! What kind of pride and self-improvement is there in having to slog through someone else's notions of feee-- ...of the mushy stuff?"

"How can I invite you to movie nights with other people if you won't watch the whole movie?" Seivarden said. "It's just proper."

"Well," Amaya's arms folded with a small huff, "you didn't mention other people. It's different when there's other people. That just means it's my cue to get up and see if there's more snacks."

"That's cheating."

By now Seivarden was just teasing her. In a forge full of weapons.
