Underwater Basket Weaving and Other Aquatic Arts!; Monday, Fourth Period [05/10].

Having enlisted the assistance of a few hopefully trustworthy squirrels, Sidon had sent out messages tucked away in pretty little blue shells to be delivered to those who had signed up for his class prior to the meeting time, neat little notes that he was very proud of because he had not, in all his time away, lost his grasp on writing English:

Salutations! And thank you for signing up for Underwater Basket Weaving and Other Aquatic Arts! I am looking forward to teaching you! Please note that this class will be meeting down by the BEACH, unless otherwise stated! And please dress accordingly to having some fun in the sun and surf! Can't wait to see you there! We will all have a most wonderful time! Sincerely, your TEACHER, Sidon, the Zora Prince!

And then, as such, they would all know to be directed to the beach for this lesson, or, if anything, would just naturally assume as much and manage to get the right beach, since these things were very rarely actually specified. It shouldn't be difficult to figure out which one, though, based on the rather large and looming red shark creature waiting with shining yellow eyes and a bright and eager grin filled with teeth and sparkle.

And once it looked like most of them were there, he got started.

"Hello!" he boomed, opening up his arms joyously for his first class, and wasn't this exciting? "And welcome! To Underwater Basket Weaving and other Aquatic Arts!" His fist pumped eagerly acorss his chest. "If you've signed up for this class, wonderful! I'm looking forward to teaching you the thrilling ways of the waves! And if you have not signed up for this class and just happened to wander onto the beach wondering what all this hubbub was about, well, then, welcome to you as well! The more, the merrier, I say! Now, this will be a class that focuses on activities done in the water, and so if there are any issues in that regard I should know about, please do not hesitate to ask! But rest assured, you are embarking on this journey with the best swimmer in all of Hyrule, so have confidence in the fact that you are in very safe claws!"

He gave a flash of said claws for emphasis with a joyful laugh, and then snapped into a ready pose, knees bent, fists curled, as if to display just how ready he was to take on the task of instruction!

"Before we get started with today's lesson," he said, "which will, of course, be the titular Underwater Basket Weaving, let us first introduce ourselves, although I believe I have had the pleasure of meeting you all at some point in time! It has been a while, though, and just in case you don't know each other, a refresher is always nice! I shall begin!

"As I'm sure you know, I am Sidon!" Another mighty pump of his fist, his grin big and bright (and if you listened closely over the waves, you could hear a faint tinkle from the light gleaming off his fangs!). "The Zora Prince! I come from a land called Hyrule, which is very far away, and I used to be a student here myself, not too long ago in this world, but in my world it has been more than thirty years! Can you imagine? Time can be a bit funny like that, can't it? But, either way, I am positively elated to be back to share with you all everything I know about how to make the most of your oceanic, sea-faring, and lake loving experiences! I am a champion waterfall diver back home, one of the strongest swimmers my world has ever seem, and I quite enjoy spending time in the water, although that does come with the territory of being a Zora, as we are an amphibious race that feels most at home when wet! And hopefully you all will, too!

"Now then!" He beamed excitedly down at them all. "Who would like to go next? I would very much like to know all about who you are: what your name is, where you're from, what your experiences with water and water-based activities might be, and also how you feel your strength as a swimmer may be. That will be very useful knowledge for future classes, although don't concern yourself if you find yourself to not be a very strong one, as I will help you out and more than make up for it ! Let's go, then! You there!" He gestured eagerly toward the traditional random person. "How about you start us off? And then we will get to the baskets once everyone's gotten to know each other more and we've begun our aquatic journey into friendship and fun!"

Ready for adventure! With baskets!

There is a very towering shark prince babbling very excitedly at you for a good long while, which means there's plenty of time to sneak away now while you still have the chance! Or just stick around out of fascination or the sheer fact that...why wouldn't you want to?

Introductions are Sidon's favorite part of any new semester! Everyone take a moment and get to know each other, by sharing your name, where you're from, your experience with the Aquatic Arts, and anything else you may feel will be helpful or interesting!

Want to keep it to the basics? Marvelous! Sidon admires the efficiency of your brevity! Want to share a random story about a time a crab bit your foot or what you had for breakfast that morning? Fantastic! Sidon is all here for it!

"Wonderful!" Sidon beamed at the group when everyone was finished saying their piece and their introductions. "What a spectacular group we have with us! But let us move onto today's lesson, as we have only so much time, and so many exhillerating activities to pursue! We start our workshop with a quintesentially aquatic art, and that is the art of underwater basket weaving! Now, since I am quite confident that most of you do not actually possess the lung capacity to pursue this particular art fully submerged for the duration of the entire process, you have the option to keep only your baskets submerged while we work, or we have snorkels and scuba gear at your disposal should you so wish to take it to the next level by submerging yourself! Whichever is most comfortable for you, and if you need assistance, I will be more than happy to help! So everyone, help yourself to a bundle of reeds, which you will find here beside me, and let us head into the water! Find a spot where you feel comfortable either standing or sitting, dependant on depth, and we shall get started. Be warned, this early in the year, the water is a bit brisk, but we will have a fire to dry our baskets...and ourselves!...when we are finished, as well as some hot drink courtesy of the Perk to warm us back up again!

"Now," he said, once he gestured everyone out and it seemed everyone was settled, "the whole concept of weaving baskets underwater is that the water will actually soften the reeds and grass that you are using significantly, and allow you to bend and weave them easily without them breaking! What an absolutely fascinating discovery, wouldn't you say? So by working under the water, we can weave them together with a fluidity and ease similiar to the flow of the very water itself, and perhaps that may even translate into the pleasing curves and shapes of your basket when you are done! Now, to begin your weaving..."

And with that, the instruction (finally) began in (very verbose) earnest, covering even a few different types of weaving for them to try!

Again, it's still quite a bit brisk in the water this time of year, which Sidon is quite comfortable with, but he knows he's rather built for that sort of thing! So there are some nice fires going to dry yourself (and your baskets!) at the end, perhaps share your work and your experience with your fellow classmates, and enjoy some moddable take-aways cups of various hot drinks that have arrived with perfect timing from the Perk.

Because Sidon doesn't shy away from much, and talking is rarely anything he's shy about!

Duke Crocker

Duke got past the ‘Sidon, you’ve grown‘ reaction relatively quick, and now was just watching his former student, highly amused.

Maybe he needed to be that large to contain all his enthusiasm?

“I’m Duke,” Duke said, waving his hand. “From Haven, Maine originally, but I like to think of myself as more of a citizen of the world. And I grew up in, on, and around the water. I live on a boat and like to go free diving in my spare time, so I’d say I’m a pretty strong swimmer.”

Duke picked out a snorkel and some reeds and headed into the water.

His basket would come out a little lopsided, but he was proud of it anyway.

Duke had come wearing a wetsuit, well familiar with how cold the Atlantic could be this time of year, and so wasn’t too cold. But he wouldn’t turn down a free cup of coffee and a nice fire when one was on offer.

"Wonderful!" said Sidon, beaming happily. "What a spectacular introduction! It's so good to see you again, Duke, which is your name," he threw in a jaunty little wink and a small chuckle because he certainly did not forget the confusion he had suffered when first making Duke's aquaintence however long ago that was!, "and not title! Having another strong swimmer on board is very encouraging, perhaps you may be willing to help out the others who might not be quite to our level yet! And here's to hoping there may still be a few shining pearls of knowledge for you to pick up on in this course, even with your own extensive experiences thus far!"

If anything, a Sidon class was guaranteed to be...an experience!

Clare was, momentarily at least, at a complete loss for words.

This was an actual class about underwater basket weaving? Her da would lose his mind.

“Thanks, man,” Duke said, offering a cheeky salute. “I’ll be happy to help out. And it’s good to see you again, too. How’s the kingdom?”

"Peaceful!" Sidon answered with a laugh and a shrugging gesture, as if to say, what can you do? "Which is a very good thing, mark my words!, but it can get a little dull, you know, especially when one has been afforded the many adventures that an education here at Fandom High is bound to offer! Thus why I've decided to come here and give the whole teaching thing a good try! After all, my father is still in very good health and the spell holding back the cursed Calamaty has thankfully not begun to falter, so I think I could do with a little bit of an adventure! And how have things been with you and the island in general? I saw that your lovely boat has some company in the port, now!"

Himself included!

"How exciting!"

Only just the first lesson! As the title suggested, there were, after all, many other Aquatic Arts!

"Ah!" Sidon beamed brightly when he saw the now familiar girl and was more than willing to help her out with her introductions. "Spectacular! Clare Devlin! From Derry, was it not? We met at the picnic just the other day! How wonderful! I didn't realize you'd be one of my very own students!"

“It does,” Duke said. “The little one belongs to Octavia, and the big one’s captained by my new co-pirating teacher, Edward. As for things here. . . . I’ve actually been on vacation the last couple of weeks but I hear folks had another rough spot. You know, as Fandom is wont to do.”

"Ah, yes," said Sidon brightly, "I met Octavia just last night when I came in from a bit of a swim!"

Leave it to Sidon to consider a dive down to the ocean floor to see if anything he'd left down there a while back was still there 'a bit of a swim'.

"I shall just have to meet this co-pirating teacher of yours now, and I'll have met all three of our boating buddies! I do hope you had a marvelous time on your vacation, in addition to the excellent timing for having avoided one of Fandom's notorious occurances, although I must admit, I somewhat miss those exciting little affairs! Perhaps that's just a mere reflection on just how peaceful things have been, though. It's all a matter of one's perspective."

"Yes, I remember," Clare said faintly. "Hullo."

"Salutations!" Sidon greeted back with vigor and verve! "And greetings! So, tell me, Clare! Are you coming to us as a freshly minted enthusiast of the Aquatic Arts, or do you have experience with such things so far and are looking to hone your already considerable skills?"

"I have absolutely no skills in such things," Clare said. "None at all."

"Well, that's excellent!" Sidon said, with a small, eager pump of both his fists. "Then you have so much still to learn! And what a great way to learn them! I do hope you will let me know if you need a little more instruction on any particular point, though, and do not fee discouraged! I may be an excellent swimmer now, but believe me when I tell you that I was a bit of a late bloomer in that respect, but thanks to the care and patience of a fantastic teacher, I've become one of the very best!"

Well, the water was absolutely frigid, but she'd spent enough time on Benone Beach to be used to it (even if even Orla hadn't been crazy enough to try weaving baskets while in the sea).

Her basket looked a lot like a rectangular placement, honestly.
