Hopefully, all the proper venues of communication had gone out to let the students know that they'd actually be meeting in Turtle & Canary for their first lesson, but there was a note on the door of the designated classroom for this class just in case, and then she waited until it looked about time to start before getting into it.

"Hey, guys," she offered with a smile. "Most of you already know me, but I saw a few unfamiliar names on the list, so hi, I'm Summer, and you're all assumingly here for Multidimensional Economics, where we'll explore some of the more interesting aspects of doing business in a multidimensional setting, things like supply and demand, trade resources, expanding your market, knowing how to deal with a wide variety of economic systems and products, blah blah blah, so on and so forth, while also totally getting to shop in some really interesting places.

"And Turtle & Canary here is a really good place to start with all of that, because serving an island on a multidimensional nexus can lead to a lot of interesting economic situations, conundrums, and products. I owned this store a little while ago, not long after I graduated from Fandom, actually, then sold it to its current owner, and now I'm back as manager...long story, but we'll get into it when we discuss exploring untapped markets in the multiverse...not to mention working at two different versions of a Needful Things store in two different dimensions, one significantly stronger on the whole 'selling cursed items...but not for money' thing than the other, so, needless to say, I've got some experiencing juggling some interesting stock for some interesting customer bases. It's definitely a trip, and you're, like, constantly learning some really cool stuff...and also a lot of stuff you probably wish you could just as easily forget.

"But for today," she said, finally seeming to wind down into some sort of conclusion, "I'd like you guys to start getting your feet wet in this wide world of multidimensional economics by getting a little familiar with some of the weird ass shit that's available even in your own friendly neighborhood general store. Take some time, help yourself to a Squishy if you'd like, and look around a little. I want you guys to find something that you've never seen before or seems really weird and strange, and then bring it back up to the counter. When everyone has found an unfamiliar product, then, I want you to take a moment, tell us who you are, and then do your best to try to sell us on that product, even if you have no idea what it is. Because, honestly? When it comes to business and selling, most of it is pretty much based on how well you can bullshit your intended audience into believing that they need to buy the thing that you're selling, even if you don't believe it yourself.

"Is that ethical? Probably not, we'll get into that in a later class about ethical business practices. But for now? Go forth, find some weird shit, and then come back here and try to sell me on it. Oh! And if you don't know already, try to just avoid the cheese section, if you can. Cool. Any questions before we begin?"

Ready to make a sale!

Suspiciously eye the Squishy machine! Wonder what the deal is with the turtle and the canary! Ask questions! It's all valid!

When they say the sell mostly everything, they mean it, with countless Handwavey Aisles, with your every day pantry staples, to blue milk and whole section for caf and a generally very heavy leaning towards things found in a galaxy far, far away, to something more unique, like your all-purpose plumbus or let's say some Sex Panther cologne or some classy AF Snake Juice liquor, or whatever this thing was, which was very disappointing and not at all what Summer had hoped it would be!

The possibilities are moddable and vast and almost endless.

Almost. Because there was still not a roll of duct tape to be found anywhere in the joint.

Once you've found something weird or unfamiliar or just plain boggling, head on back up and once everyone's good, introduce yourself and try to convince Summer (or anyone else in the class) why they need this product, whatever the hell it might be!

Should she be needed for anything not directly related to lecturing, exploring, or selling.

Eleanor raised her hand. "Why the f-"

Hmm. Eleanor cleared her throat.

"Why is this place called Turtle and Canary anyway?"

Eleanor was honestly not that into the assignment. I mean honestly, she's never that into assignments anyway regardless of who was teaching the class or what the class was about.

Her apathy quickly disappeared when she found several tubes of a certain product which caused her to shriek with joy.

And anyone reading the narrative might be disappointed to see what those tubes actually were.

Eleanor stood up with her an armful of snack chips in a tube.

"My name is Eleanor and these are shrimp flavored pringles," she declared. "And they're mine. All mine. I'm buying them all and you can't have any."

She held them close to her as if she were a loving mother. "I'm going to devour all of you," she whispered to the tubes.

So... not really like a loving mother at all.

"Good question, Eleanor!" Summer said brightly, and not just because she actually knew the answer, but still mostly because she knew the answer.

"It actually used to be called All and Sundries for a while, until it was bought out by a business partnership comprising of one Jane Canary and one Tabitha-Ruth Wexler, who was called Turtle. Which, you know, can you blame her with a name like Tabitha-Ruth? Anyway, they bought it, renamed it, and the name stuck, because it's pretty cute and catchy, right?"

"Huh."

Eleanor both pondered and seemed disappointed by that information.

"I was thinking the store was owned by a turtle and canary."

"That actually kind of makes me want to try the chips," Arabella admitted.

Eleanor’s immediate reaction was to hold onto the Pringle tubes tighter. And then realized that she probably should act that way to her little sibling.

She looked at her precious shrimp Pringles and sighed. “I’ll let you have one. Chip. One chip.”

"I mean," Summer offered, "I'm sure at one point in time, those owners were an actual turtle and an actual canary. I don't know how what animal you get turned into gets chosen, but that would seriously be a missed opportunity if they turned into something else."

Then she cast a glance over to the counter-top grocey store namesake pets.

"And I know it's not exactly the same," she ventured, "but I can guarantee you that that turtle and canary at least do more work around here than the actual owner, so there' sthat?"

"Oh, man!" Troy admitted, straightening up, the wide-eyed look on his face channeling a lost, almost desperate sort of puppy. "I kinda want one now, too!"

“No! I don’t know you!” Eleanor snapped. Then made a face. “Everyone can have one chip. But it’s the broken ones at the bottom!”

"Pretty basic lesson in economics, here, Eleanor," Summer offered. "You have something that other people want." For some strange reason, what was wrong with kids these days? "Don't just give it away for free."

"No, it's okay," Arabella said, even though if Eleanor was Arabella's real big sister she would have probably already swiped one of the tubes of Pringles and run off yelling, 'Mine now!' "Those are your chips. But that you feel so strongly about them makes me want to know what the big deal is."

“... I’ll trade chips for margarita mix.”

“They have shrimp flavor,” she said, as if that explained everything.

"Weird," Arabella told her. "But I support you in it."
