Superheroing 101- Monday- 3rd period

"Morning, everybody. Welcome to Superheroing 101, and probably the only time you'll be in a classroom fir the rest of the semester. Mostly we're going to be in the Danger Shop, working through scenarios and testing what you can do.

"For those of you who don't know me, I'm Kitty Pryde, and I'm a mutant who's been a superhero since I was thirteen. I'm technically out of it right now but still go back to it when they need me. I think I've kind of been through it all by now, and while there are some really heavy parts to it, it can also be a lot of fun, and when you get down to it, it's all about helping people.

"So," Kitty said, "we're going to start with introductions today. I want your name, where you're from, and any powers you're willing to disclose. Don't feel like you have to. And then we're going to think about what kind of superhero you'd want to be."

Name, where you're from, powers y/n?

"What kind of hero would you want to be?" Kitty asked, passing out paper for people to write or draw on. "Is there a reason behind it? What kind of code name do you want? Next week we're definitely working on costumes so do you have ideas there? Feel free to talk to each other and help each other out."

Should have known better than to try and write class at work at month end.

Illyana Rasputin

Oh, great, of course this was her first class of the day.

At least if she disclosed her powers, no one was (hopefully) going to freak out.

"Illyana Rasputin," she said, half-raising her head from where she'd had it down on her desk. "Born in Russia, live in New York. I'm a Sorcerer Supreme in training, with a side of mutant teleportation. I'm not a hero."

The X-Men were heroes, and Illyana wanted nothing to do with the X-Men.

Troy Barnes

There was, at this point, an odd feeling of surreality creeping in on Troy, where he was (finally) starting to feel like maybe this wasn't real or that he may be being pranked a little, but at the same time, he was sitting there in a classroom with a teacher straight up talking about superheroes like they were real, and so he was definitely planning to keep rolling with this as far as he could go.

"My name's Troy Barnes?" he said, almost a little as even that was something to be questioned right now. "And I'm from Colorado. And I'd tell you more, but my powers are definitely a secret right now."

The secret was he didn't have any!

But he'll work on it!

Miles Morales

Miles was seriously wondering why he was in this class.

"Uh. I'm Miles Morales and I'm from Brooklyn. I have no powers unless you count painting a wall a power," he admitted.

"So, I have noooo idea, what kind of superhero I should be," Miles admitted. "The only hero I know of is Spider-Man and-"

His dad so hated Spider-Man.

"I'd like something different than that. Could I be... Art Man?"

Which is one letter away from Ant-Man and much less cooler.

Adora

Shuri

"I am Shuri from Wakanda," Shuri said, "and I am the head of the Wakandan Design Group where I design weapons and armor for our nation. But I don't fly or anything."

"Hi! I'm Adora, from Etheria, which is a planet that you've probably never heard of." Please correct her if that wasn't the case, you'd probably get a hug out of it. "And I', kinda, y'know, She-Ra."

Adora, no-one in the room knew who She-Ra was.

"Welcome back." This was still weird! Was it less weird now that Kitty and her own Illyana were friends again? No! "So if you're not doing the hero thing, what do you want to be?"

Illyana just wrote "NO" on her page, then put her head back down on her desk, because she was still exhausted from yesterday. Or, apparently, exhausted from the last year, even though it felt like a week to her.

Being a Sorcerer Supreme wasn't being a hero. It was a job. One that Yana was uniquely suited for, but a job. And not one with a flashy code name.

"A normal, well-adjusted teenager?" Yana said dryly. "Oh no, wait, that's unrealistic and boring."

"I'll be Earth's next Sorcerer Supreme. Think of it as the janitor who keeps sweeping the demons off the planet and keeping it safe from magical messes. Like the weird librarian guy, but for the world."

"Well, I mean...I'm She-Ra?" Was she doing something wrong by being in this class while already being her? Did she have to try and be someone else too? Was she going to fail and have to leave this school that she didn't really want to be at, but she didn't have anywhere else to go and no way to get home? Did she need to fail this class to get home?

Sorry, Kitty, Adora's crippling self-doubt had joined the chat.

"No worries. Absolutely no pressure," Kitty said.

Which, you know, went for not having powers at all too, just saying.

"What kind of paint?" Kitty asked.

"Could you if you wanted to?" Kitty asked, because she knew at least a version of her.

"Great. Can you tell everyone who She-Ra is?"

Wasn't like Kitty knew.

"Cool," said Troy, his face a very serious and heartfelt expression of gratitude for this kind of understanding. "Thanks," he added, hand to his chest, "I really apprecaite that."

This could get kind of awkward if it turned out he couldn't actually work on it like he was definitely hoping he could, but that was a problem for future Troy. He just didn't want to be one of the few in this class that didn't have anything.

No offense, Miles, you were still cool and all, though.

"Spray paint," Miles said with a little trepidation. "Where I'm from street art is pretty common. I've thrown up a few pieces that I'm proud of."

And were promptly taken down after his dad caught them after they were put up.

"She's...She-Ra?" It wasn't like Adora had ever had to be the one explaining She-Ra. "I can show you?"

"Hey Brooklyn, I got a spot you can use if you're willing to head into Manhattan."

Illyana, no. Strange would not appreciate the Sanctum being a canvas for art.

"Well, sure," Miles said happily.

His Dad was not on that beat.

"Just tell me what you want and where and I'll be happy to do it."

This was possibly the best revenge ever for being sent back to high school.

"You gotta wade through the Village hippies to get there," she apologized, "but it'll be worth it. 177A Bleecker Street, I think the 'don't look here' spell has it looking a future Starbucks right now."

"Check in with me before you head over, I'll whip up a charm to hide you from sight while you're working."

"Probably," Shuri said. "Tony Stark figured it out. It can't be that hard."

"Wait. Hold up. You can make me invisible?" Miles asked, looking completely amazed. "Oh man, I could get so much work up if I could do that."

"It's not true invisibility, that's a pain in the ass," Illyana replied. "More like.... people look at you, they step around you, but they don't register that you're there, or even that you're a you, let alone remember that they saw you."

"If you feel comfortable and can do so safely, sure," Kitty said.

"Not a bad goal, actually," Kitty allowed.

Okay. Maybe the weirdness of this school has some benefits.

"So I could be right outside a police station painting a smiley face and the cops would just walk by?"

This had so many possibilities.

"I mean, if one of the cops had a magical ability that I didn't know about, or a mutant super-sense, they might catch on. I can't ward against people with powers I don't know about," Illyana admitted.

"Well as far as I know we don't have anyone magical or mutant-like where I'm from-"

Damn it Sony.

"So hey, that would be such a cool feat."

Grog Strongjaw

"Uh, I'm Grog, I'm from Westruun, and I'm like really really strong."

He hoped that counted, because this class seemed cool.

"That actually comes in really handy," Kitty said.

"I mean, there's no salary, but it's important," Illyana allowed, which was the closest to saying she wanted to do that she was willing to do in front of strangers. "...I don't know how we pay for anything, actually."

"Bring me something of yours, Brooklyn, that you'd take with you when you're out working on your pieces," Illyana intoned dramatically, doing her best 'Stephen Strange in full Sorcerer Supreme' mode imitation as her eyes glowed white for a moment. "I'll see what magics I can fold into it."

Then she blinked, and put her head back down on her desk. "Just don't go burning down the Village with it or anything. There's limits to how much of a disturbance a 'don't see me' can hide."

"Sure thing!" Miles agreed. "And, yeah, don't worry. Burning down things isn't my style. My Dad's a cop so even if I was invisible or under whatever it is you do, he'd still bust me if I did something wrong."

"Oh, it's no trouble," Adora said quickly and stood up, raising her hand, a sword appearing in it. "For the honour of Grayskull!"

One bright flash of light later, Adora was much taller and buffer, and dressed differently, and had a faint glow about her, as did the sword. She grinned kind of awkwardly and shrugged. "So, yeah, so this is She-Ra."

Way to ruin the effect, Adora.
