Shop Class, Wednesday

As the students walked into the classroom, they should notice that there are several stations set up. At each station is a different kind of mechanical lock, and a set of lockpicking tools.

Sam was sitting on one of the desks, swinging her feet and fiddling with her own tools. "Morning. Each of you has a lock and set of lockpicking tools. You also have a printed manual with some how to instructions."

"For those of you not familiar with picking locks, look the material over and practice on your lock. For those of you who already know what you're doing," she smirked, "please review the material and see if you can help someone else. Or, if you get bored, I've got a stopwatch or you can compete against the other people who know what they're doing."

"Make sure you know what you're doing on different kinds of locks, though--I've got something in mind for Monday."

"Can I hang out with Denver instead?" Kawalsky asked, referring to the miniature brontosaurus. Yes, he named the dinosaur. Yes, he was totally taking advantage of being friends with the teacher.

Man!! I wish Veronica & Marty were in this class so they could compete and settle the "who's a better lock pick?" question once and for all!!

"Well, I can *try*. I can't guarantee that he'll learn."

Kawalsky smirked. "Right."

He turned to Denver and crouched down beside him. No, he was not getting attached to the holographic thing. At all. No way.

My money's on V. But then I'm a little biased. I just finished a Season 1 & 2 marathon and am gleeing over a new, GOOD TV show to love and hug and be loyal to.

"You know," Xander said, blinking at the wee purple-ish dinosaur, "remind me not to bring the frog in here? Because he'd totally fall in love, and it would all end in tears. These real/hologram relationships never work out well."

Nadia looked over the locks and lock pick sets, barely blinking at the so! very! cute! baby purple dinosaur.

"Can we keep the lock pick sets?"

Nadia couldn't count the number of times she'd had to pick locks to get into or out of a place back in Argentina if she used both hands and both feet, so she figured she might be an expert. She grabbed a set of lock picks and quietly began opening the assortment of different locks around the rom.

Nadia smiled slightly. "Great. I've been meaning to get a set, anyway."

Xander blinked back at her. "Galaxy Quest Season 2, episode 23? Grabthar's Hammer?"

Xander noted that quietly, and slipped his set into his backpack. Not that he was, you know, managing to open one simple key-lock at the moment, but the tools couldn't not come in handy at some point.

Okay, so Xander remembered just enough of somebody else's military lockpicking training to a) recognize that it was never somebody else's specialty, and b) not get lost reading the manual. Catburgler extraordinaire, this did not make him.

He set about working on a very simple key-based padlock, and... at least hadn't yet broken off any of the lockpicks in it?

"I... haven't busted it yet? I consider this an accomplishment." He actually sort of had an idea what he was supposed to be doing; he just kept losing concentration and staring off into space every so often, before returning to the task.
