So You Want to Be a Pirate!, Wednesday, period two

The class met in the state room today instead of out on the deck, with chairs for all arranged around the large central table. There was a set of Jack's name-and-pronouns stickers on the table for anyone who wanted to fill one of those out, too.

"Right," Duke greeted from his own seat. He was dressed simply today, in jeans, a tank top, and a flannel, having not really felt up with trying to find a more piratical outfit in his new, more lady-like proportions. His name tag said Captain Duke and Him. Mostly. "So I figured some of you all wouldn't be up for a lot of running around this week, but it looks like the island decided to get pretty much everything in on the action. So today we're going to chill a little, and talk about treasure maps.

"So the theory is, that way back in the golden age of piracy, pirate captains would stash their ill-begotten goods on deserted islands, buried usually, and make elaborate coded maps that led to the treasure's location. This — pretty much never actually happened." Said the man who had an as-of-yet unknown hidden treasure stashed on his own damn ship. "But it's fun to imagine anyway. I've got some examples here if you want to take a look, and lots of paper for you to try to make your own. So that's what we're doing today. What's your treasure? Where's it hidden? What are the names of the landmarks along the way? All up to you. Draw up a map using Fandom as your base, make it as confusing to follow as possible, and then find someone to swap maps with and see if they can figure it out.

"Or, you know, chill out and oogle each other's new bits. You do you. In whatever shape you're currently occupying."

Delirium wasn't feeling quite herself. She was feeling very fishies. Which is why she was a school of hundreds of them.

She, too, contained multitudes.

Every one of the fishies was wearing a tiny black pirate hat and after the school floated over the stickers and puzzled out what they were, they were also wearing teeny tiny name badges. They were little purikura stickers with chibi!Del in all her alternate forms from 'looks like a little girl' to 'looks like a little human of indeterminate gender' to 'looks like a little boy' on them. They also had her name, and the pronouns didn't necessarily match the picture.

Del didn't really mind any pronoun but she appreciated stickers!

Del's school of fishies nudged a piece of paper over to a clear space on the table by bopping it with tiny fishy fins until it was where they wanted it. The school went into a tiny blizzard of color over the paper and produced an uncannily accurate map of the island. Little silver dots appeared between some of the places. Red dashes appeared in other places.

Along the side where a legend might be were directions. They were.. well. Delirium wrote them.

"Start at the place with the really good squishy bread and hop ten paces.
Turn around with your eyes closed until you get really dizzy.
Run forward as fast as you can.
Eat a marshmallow. It has to be a pink marshmallow.
Turn left at the third tree.
Turn right at the Alot.
Not that Alot. The other one.
Yes that one.
Do as many somersaults as you can forward, but then back up three of them.
Hop on one foot down the cobblestones without touching any cracks.
When you get to the one with the chicken-foot shaped crack, turn right.
Buy a big pumpkin spice hot chocolate wherever you are.
Bring it to Norman."

In glitter, words appeared: "Congratulations, you have found a treasure!"

Look, her roommate was the nicest person she knew. She kind of treasured him.

He's going to be lady-shaped and surrounded by a curious and caring school of fish when they're done with their map. One of them may try to boop Duke's nose.

It was kind of a wonder Vette had found clothes that morning before making her way to class. Kind of. Sort of. In the end she'd settled on attempting to battle her way into a t-shirt, which was stretched across her much broader torso far more than it would have been if she'd been wearing it, say, yesterday. That was fine. It was the bottom half situation that had given her the most grief. Even though she wasn't prone to wearing skirts at her normal size, there had been one in the room that laced up in the back, ruffled and decidedly more fancy than anything she tended to wear on a good day, and so she was wearing that to class.

Un-laced. And even that had been a battle to get into.

She was sulking a little as she picked at the nametag. Who she was, of course, was probably obvious, but if anybody called her anything but 'she' today she'd probably harpy-screech and tackle them. And for once in her life she actually had the mass to make a tackle like that pretty effective.

Vette's map was pretty simple.

Go to the clothing store.
Get me pants that fit.
Bring them to me.
I will owe you BIG TIME.

... Normally she would be super into something like this. She was a treasure-hunter, after all, with an affinity for puzzles and more. But everything from her increased size to the shape of her ears was freaking her out today and the only reason she wasn't at home under the covers right now was because she already knew there were other people dealing with it, too.

In front of the school of fish, the word 'Yes!' appeared in the air and then slowly faded into glittering sparkles.

And then, 'I like your new hair! It's pretty!'

'I have pretty fishies! I feel very fishies right now.' The school gave a tiny little shimmy to show off all those pretty scales. 'Did you feel smaller today? You're smaller.'

She had noticed some things! She was Paying Attention!

.. not, of course, the most obvious thing, no.

'I thought it just moved to your head.' Del confessed. 'Do you like being smaller?'

She was a little worried and didn't even know why. It was hard to pinpoint a single thought when you were a school of fish.

'Fishies was hard the first time,' the words appeared. Del hoped they looked helpful. 'New is always hard the first time.'

'All the time', the words appeared and glittered out, 'Being one thing always is hard. I never know what I'm going to be otherwise. New is hard but finding fun is easy and I try to find the fun in it.'
