Fandom Gladiators Part DEUX! - First Period, Friday, 7/5.

The Danger Shop had once again been converted into a now-familiar arena, mats laid out around a series of small, round, raised platforms, with some higher platforms and a whole lot of dangling ropes off to the side.

"Well, this is a hell of a week to start a new session," Rosa murmured, by way of introduction, figuring she couldn't exactly go by the roster to get a feel for when everyone was there to start class. She took a second to look over who had made it, relatively on time anyway, and just sort of shrugged.

"Alright, well," she said, "welcome to Fandom Gladiators, and congrats, I guess, for having actually made it in and actually, you know, being here and not either missing or lost in that maze out there. Those of you who were here for the first round sort of know the drill, only instead of battling each other, you're battling," she gestured at the teachers who'd made it in, "these guys. For those of you who are new, this class is technically supposed to put you up to a new challenge every week to test your strength, speed, and stamina, but, really, it's just an excuse to play dumb games and have stupid code names.

"If you were here last time, you're keeping your gladiator name. No take-backs." Which just made her sad that Crap Horse wasn't back this session. If you're new, take a second to think about what you want for yours, and pick out something good. You know. Something really catchy and intimidating. Like Lilac or Nexu."

Hey, neither of them were there right now, she was definitely going to make fun of them. "This goes for the teachers, too, don't think you guys're getting out of this without nicknames. And if you don't have one by the end of the class, then that means I'm picking it for you.

"Since Deadpool already stole the hilarious idea of making you all just do a maze this week, we're doing Human Cannonball for our first one again, because it's easy and doesn't require me to set you up in teams or pair you up since who even knows who's going to be here and when right now? So, suit up and get ready. Students, you get to defend yourself on the platforms first with the teachers trying to knock you off, and then we'll switch it. Whichever team of cannonballs knocks the most people off their platform wins. Got it? Let's go."

Like a cannonball!

There isn't much of one, no, but it's a chance for you to size up the competition and/or wonder exactly what you've gotten yourself into, get pumped for what you've gotten yourself into, or just wonder how different the class will look next week when everyone who should be is actually there.

For all the newbs, go ahead and pick a gladiator name that may or may not be bastardized and changed by Rosa and will likely be the only name she ever remembers you by.

Same with you teachers, though she might already be picking out yours herself, won't that be great?

Anyone from last session gets to keep theirs. Has to keep theirs? You can make an appeal if you want a change, but it probably won't do you any good, you're stuck with it.

"Here's how this works," Rosa explained, "each of you are going to take a turn on that raised platform there. Take one of the cushioned shields to help you out. And then your fellow gladiators are going to swing from the rope from the higher platform and try to knock you off. Since the numbers are wonky, we're going by timed rounds this time. Gladiators, if you get knocked off, go ahead and get back up again. Cannonballs, you can swing as many times as you want, too. Then we'll switch. Whichever team gets the most people off their platforms wins. Pretty simple, right? Alright, kids, get up there. Let's find out what your teachers really think about you."

There will be two threads: one for the students on the platforms, one for the teachers. Ping in with the Gladiator/defender, and the Cannonballs can then ping in and try to knock that Gladiator off! I'm leaving it up to you guys rather than chance this time around how it turns out, but the coin toss says Teachers win this one!

Students, ping in all ready to go and defend your spot on your platform against Grown Ass Adults who should know better than to want to knock teenagers off platforms!

Ahhh, revenge! Teachers, ping in all ready to go and defend your spot on your platform against a bunch of teenagers you just knocked off their own platforms who would totally be harboring some resentment over a C- in your class one semester if this school even gave a shit about things like grades.

Because she gets to be the Most Teachery of All The Other Teachers right now.

Prince Sidon

Kanan... actually hadn't intended to be here today. Things were wild outside, damn it, and people had gone missing. Hell, Kanan had tried to turn around three times once he came across the bog outside, but ended up just doing a Force-leap to get to the school by the time he got here. Because... hell, he was here anyway, and there was a class, right?

"Hell, I don't know," he mused. "I haven't had to come up with a good name for myself in a while."

... Since he'd picked 'Kanan Jarrus,' really.

Picking a Gladiator name certainly sounded like a very important decision to make, and Sidon was not about to enter into it lightly. He stroked his chin a little thoughtfully as he went over a few options. He wanted something bold and strong, something that truly showed he was ready to tackle any challenge, as well as something that would alert anyone who heard it to the great power of the Zora that possessed it!

Was there anything in the great legends of Hyrule he'd grown up hearing that might apply? Yes...yes! He thought there most certainly was, and with that, he had his name.

"I," he declared eagerly and brightly, fists clenched on the ready to pump into the air as he announced it with appropriate drama and flair, "shall be henceforth referred to as...."

Fist pump, big grin, sparkle smile!

"Leviathan!"

Which was far more intimidating and effective than if he'd have gone with any specific Leviathan, like Jabu-Jabu, to be sure!

Leviathan (yes, yes, Sidon was eating up the whole gladiator name thing and loving every moment of it) had to laugh a little as he took his shield and took his spot on the platform and grinned up at the higher platforms where the teachers would be. He dug his feet in (a little easier to do with claws, and everything) and grinned broadly.

"Alright, then!" he said confidently. "Have at me!"

Because he was large and solid and very heavy and big, after all. But also a little too confident in himself and perhaps slightly forgetful of the ways his very top-heavy form could be his downfall should anyone come swinging in below the waist.

Really, all Kanan had to do in order to not get knocked off the platform was to avoid even letting the students make contact with him, right? Sure, he could probably suck it up and take a few blows if it came to it, but here was a man who had been dodging blaster fire while at war when he was the same age as these kids, and now he had the benefit of a cushioned shield?

... He considered the shield, shrugged, and left it behind. Easier to do this without the added bulk.

"Just remember," Rosa warned him, "if you don't pick one yourself, you're definitely gonna get one assigned."

It was a threat, of sorts, though she'd have to admit, with Kanan, it wasn't as firm of a threat because she had no idea what name she would possibly give him either, she'd even had an issue with that back when she pretty much referred to everyone by made-up code-names. But she could probably think of something pretty bad if she had to...if she had to.

"Just remember," said Rosa, as she got herself situated on her platform, sucked in a breath, and figured out her best center of gravity for balance, "I'm the one in charge of your fates in this class for the rest of the semester."

"Fair enough," Kanan replied, humming a bit as he leaned his head back. Really, his real name would have been far too easy to play on, if he'd had any desire to do so. But he wasn't trotting out 'Dume' around here any time soon if he could help it. And so he shrugged and just settled on, "Spectre, then."

It was most of his rebel codename anyway. It was either going to be that, or something to do with Wolves. He was kind of feeling the whole 'wolf' thing lately.

"Spectre," Rosa repeated, trying it out, looking mildly thoughtful about it.

"That's super dumb," she decided. "It's perfect. Welcome aboard, Spectre. Let's go kick some kids off platforms."

At the very least, it would be a brief, cathartic respite from all the weird twisty mazes and missing people, right?

Was Rosa a little bit disappointed he hadn't just gone with Shark Boy or, like, Jaws or something?

No, she wasn't.

But Leviathan wasn't that bad. Seemed fitting enough, anyway.

"I'm going to need to program some bigger stuff later on," she noted...

Kanan shrugged. Hey, it sounded better with a number after it.

"Let's go kick some kids off of platforms," he agreed. He was hardly getting anywhere else today, it seemed.

"I already have one," said actual Shadowcat.

And Rosa knew that, so no renaming!

"Yeah, you do," said Rosa, grinning. "So you're good, Shadowcat."

Which, seriously. Bad-ass, and a good thing, too; Rosa could have probably been able to think of a good one for Kitty, but nothing that good.

Janet Kim

Janet had been thinking about it, and she really wanted something badass. Something to strive towards.

"I wanna be Throatpuncher," she decided.

Rosa had been pretty sure she'd insist that Janet just be Janet because she thought that was stupid hilarious, but what Janet brought to the table was so ridiculous that she kind of couldn't refuse it.

She kind of hated how much she loved it.

"Do you, in fact, punch throats?" she asked, figuring if your name was that stupid, you better at least live up to it.

"I bet I can," Janet said, confidently.

She'd probably attempt it at some point in her life, in the right mood.

"Okay, then," said Rosa, lifting her chin a little. "Prove it. Punch me in the throat right now."

Oh, Rosa.

"Spider-man works for me," Miguel said.

Hopefully she'd let him get away with that; he wasn't letting the kids call him 'Tightpants'.

Miguel had talons on his feet. And he could move faster than most people could see. All he had to do was stand there and dodge, really.
