Should the students be a little concerned when they came into the Danger Shop arena that day to find their teacher already decked out with the pads herself?

Yeah, maybe a little. Not to mention the large stick she was leaning on that basically resembled a giant q-tip wrapped in duct tape.

As it was, the area was set up with several pairs of very small raised platforms set very close to each other, so if you hadn't been able to put things together by now, lucky you, Rosa was about to explain.

"Today," she said, "we joust. The concept is simple: each gladiator take a platform and one of these sticks, and the goal is to knock the gladiator on the other platform off. Simple, right? We're doing this tournament style, in randomly picked pairs, and, since there's an odd number of you, that means I'll be competing as well. So good luck with that. If there aren't any questions, let's just get started."

She...just might be way too eager for an excuse to whale on a kid with a giant q-tip under the guise of teaching valuable lessons. They were clearly just wasting good beat-down time.

Yeah, right, like she's going to feel the least bit bad about totally mopping the floor with you kids right now.

I mean, obviously, I don't have the receipts, but I SWEAR this was all RNG. XD I promise.

"Okay!" Keyleth? Not so loud, class nickname notwithstanding. "It's, um. Consider it . . . brought?"

Excellent intimidation job there, Keyleth.

Mae Borowski

The giant q-tip was rather a bit taller than Mae herself was, making it quite awkward to swing around.

"Come at me, bro!" she yelled. Because half of any fight was bravado and intimidation anyway.

"Yessss! Then let's," Vette raised the lance... thing... "Do this!"

... How did you want to do this, Keyleth?

Lana Beniko

"If you insist." The thing wasn't balanced like a lightsaber, but Lana made do, feinting and slashing.

Oh, great. Lana held her ground grimly and lifted the giant q-tip thing like a sword.

She wondered if she could get away with using lightning on the instructor.

She wasn't going to chance it.

In general, the instructor would prefer Nexu didn't use lightning on anyone...not because she would particularly care about anyone's well-being (especially not in the Danger Shop), but just because it sounded like a headache trying to explain why she let her students going around electrifying people.

And she'd also be a little pissed about it happening to her, but, also, she could not deny that it would probably be kind of cool.

Just more cool for it to happen to other people.

But for now, Rosa took a moment to consider Nexu's stance, gave her Q-tip a completely unnecessary twirl, and went swooping in straight for her knees.

Mae had zero weapons training. Mae's version of fighting mostly involved wildly swinging things and hoping she connected. This had worked to her advantage many times in the past, but this time . . . not so much.

Lana landed a solid *whack* that very well might have sent Mae right off the platform if Mae's balance wasn't absurdly good. Heck, she could stand on things even when only the barest bit of heel or toe was still on top of it! "You'll have to try harder than that!"

Admittedly, not that much harder.

Lana stepped back and let that strike go past, trying to push it further and knock Rosa off-balance.

Lana grinned. "Like this?" She spun her q-tip thing and struck from the other side, low then high.

Mae was thoroughly whomped, and ~~the screen shook and blurred~~ she staggered under the blows. She wheeled her arms around, just barely catching herself before toppling off the other edge of the platform.

"I AM UNSHAKABLE!"

"Unshakable, but topple-able," Lana said, grinning down at her. "Need a hand?"
