Adulting 101- Monday- 2nd period

The class was in a regular classroom today, with all the desks being moves to the sides of the room, and several boxes were set at the front.

"Welcome back. Unfortunately part of adulting is having to go to work and class after vacation, so we're actually doing stuff today," Kitty greeted them. "By now we've gotten places to live, stocked it with food, and now you get to furnish it. When you're first starting out- or even now, if there's stuff you want to get for your dorms- you might not have a ton of cash, so a cheap way to get things is IKEA. Luckily there's the Isle of IKEA right over there-" She waved vaguely in a direction, which might be correct? "-if you needed. And part of why it's less expensive is because you put it together yourself. There are a couple pieces to be put together. Pick one, open up a box, I have tools up here if you need, let's see what you can do."

True story: this happened to be the next class on the same day I made Nick come over and help me finish up a dresser because I couldn't get those little metal circular things in right and at the very end we realized that there were two different sizes and that was probably my issue.

Still better than when I tried to put a queen bed together and it took eight hours and I realized that I'd put something on upside down but couldn't fix it without undoing half my work so I just stuck it on anyway.

Building furniture shouldn't be an existential crisis, but Astrid, going for the bookshelf because it was easily the most useful of the options, found herself stuck between her practical side, which enjoyed clear instructions and reachable goals, and her artistic side, which saw a bunch of pieces in front of her and was curious about how else they could be put together.

But instructions won this time around, something precise and specific to just follow mindlessly so she didn't think too much about wanting to run away to California to bust her mom out of prison and flee to live in Iceland together for the rest of their days.

Norman was going to go with the dresser, here, since it seemed like the more fiddly option, what with there being drawers and things.

Norman was also kind of wishing he had a third arm before too long.
