The class was asked to meet outside that morning, where they'd find Amaya waiting for them with a collection of supplies, weights, the usual tools, and a whole lot of those jack-o-lanterns that seemed to have been terrorizing the staff at Covent Garden this week. Granted, even the pile she had with her only put a dent in what they seemed to have available, but at least she was doing her part to help take care of a few of them.

"Morning, everyone!" she greeted the class brightly it seemed they were all mostly there. "Today, I figured we'd get into the spirit," yes, intentional, unfortunately, "of the upcoming holiday and do some pumpkin chuckin', which is a tradition around this time of year."

Kind of? Enough to seem like one from the not-very-deep depths of Amaya's research, anyway. Look, it involved trebuchets and projectiles, she really didn't even need an excuse, but it was nice to sort of pretend she was being thematic.

"So I've got some instructions here on how to build a trebuchet, which we all know is the superior seige weapon, as well as all the materials and tools you'll need. I'd like this one to be a group project; it'll be easier to get a nice, solid construction if you all work together. That'll make the job a lot quicker, too, which will give you more time to test it out, vary the weights, and see just how many of these pumpkins we can make disappear into the preserve. I'm here, of course, should you have any questions, but I think I'll just let you all get to work. Time's a wastin'! These pumpkins aren't going to chuck themselves."

Well, they might, because Fandom. But at the current moment, it looked like it was entirely up to them.

Like you can launch a 90kg projectile over 300 meters.

There isn't much of one, but you can be pretty sure those jack-o-lanterns are watching you the entire time.

There's only a handful of you in the first place, a good number to work together without it being too crowded or confusing. So get together, grab some tools, and start building!

Once the trebuchet is built and passes Amaya's inspection, she'll offer a quick demonstration on how best to use it, effectively and safely, launching the first pumpkin across the school grounds toward the preserve.

And then it's the students' turn! There are plenty of pumpkins and weights to sort of play around with, and plenty of time still left in class to do it.

She's there and finding it difficult to not be in a good mood. How could any day that starts with seige weapons and projectiles be a bad day??

I've been looking forward to this class since day one!

Norman Babcock

... Oh no, ghost joke. Norman tried not to look too pained, especially since now that he had a little tattoo of a cartoony ghost still healing (and itching) on his inner wrist, he really wasn't in any position to say anything, anymore.

If anybody needed Norman, he was absolutely making a reach for the drill. This seemed like as good an activity to just throw his attention at as any. And the pumpkin chucking - traditional or not - sounded like fun, too.

"Yea-heah!" Prompto cheered a little as he gathered up some of the boards. "Teamwork!" Which also meant...slightly less work? But also, likely more fun work?

Noticing Norman already grabbing a drill, he asked, "You ever build one of these before?"

Prompto was all about gratuitously flinging crap into the air! He wasn't likely to make a big deal out of it if it turned out someone else was way better, but he did hope he had enough time and turns to try to beat his own personal best.

The only thing that put a slight damper on it all, though, was that sometimes Prompto couldn't help but wistfully sigh every time a pumpkin went sailing through the air. If he had his guns...his nice, new, shiny, beautiful guns!...they could be watching those big orange gourds be exploding in the air, instead of having to wait for them to smash into the ground.

Such a wasted opportunity.

Beaker

A catapult that Beaker wasn't being chucked from!

He was kinda disappointed.

Beaker's trebuchet was surprisingly well put together!

And he'd figured out a way he could ride in it too, which was...probably not a great idea.

"A trebuchet, nah," Norman replied, shaking his head. "But during the school's summer camp things on Wednesdays this year, we built catapults out of popsicle sticks."

A pause.

"They were mostly pretty terrible."
