Laying Low for Beginners

There was no teacher when the students arrived in class, but shortly after, Hera rushed in the door, checked the number on it, then nodded. "Right. Sorry, guys, Kanan is out. He's off...doing something. I just remembered he had this class, so I thought I'd come and let you know."

She shrugged. "So, you're supposed to learn laying low, right? I have only the vaguest idea what Kanan has already taught you. Has he gone over voices yet? Your voice is something that can" apparently make people fall instantly in love with you "give you away in any number of ways - the actual sound of it, your accent, the words you choose. I don't know much about Earth accents except that apparently the local one sounds mid-Rim and the Coruscanti accent sounds like something called British, and the Ryloth accent sounds like something called French."

She took a deep breath. "Anyway - think of your own accent, and how you use words, and whether your voice is high- or low-pitched and what else could give you away. Then, try to change it. Come up here and talk to us, and try to make yourself sound like someone else. Someone from another place, or another age, or whatever. Then realize how hard it is, and go away and practice." She grinned. "Maybe try it out on Kanan next week in retaliation."

He would definitely be back next week. He had better.

Thaaaank you for this. 8D Lemme know if you ever totally brainfart on spontaneous plot developments versus IC responsibilities and how to marry them up and I'll cover for you on zero notice, too.

There was definitely some concern here, but all things considered, Sabine was pretty impressed with Hera's ability to roll with this.

Sabine was here, taking this as a sign to learn more languages here. You know. For the accents.

Well of course Sabine was going to check in. "Hey," she greeted her, "everything okay?"

"I dunno, is staging a rebellion part of laying low?" Sabine asked lightly.

Opposite way around, actually!

"Actually... what do you mean laying low without being useless?"

It may have just occurred to her that that might be what she was currently doing. Not her fault, but still.

It was funny sometimes, how things started to click in a person's head.

""That makes sense," she admitted. "Guess I never really looked at it that way."

"I'm sure." Just because she'd never said anything about her last name didn't mean Sabine hadn't noticed it.
