Wednesday Camp Shenanigans [Fandom Park, late afternoon]

The park today was covered in red, white, and blue bunting, and the vendors were selling hamburgers, hot dogs, and overcooked veggie patties.

Someone named Karen had brought the potato salad. It had raisins in it. WHY, KAREN.

Various portions of the park had been roped off for various activities. Anakin, wearing shorts and not robes for once--it was kriffing hot out--stood in his usual spot and wielded his megaphone. "Welcome back, everyone!" he called, waving his hand out for The Fish.

The stinky, charred wreck of a Viking funeral came hurtling from...God knows where. Anakin shuddered. "At least it's not singing so loudly any longer?" he offered to the group. "Hopefully it will go to someone who can return it to its former glory this week!"

No one wants that.

"Okay, first up is a group event: Tug of war. Listen for your name and go to the correct side of the rope." He gestured helpfully to a rope with a blue and gold ribbon hanging jauntily above a huge mud puddle. "The team that emerges victorious will then compete against each other in the potato sack races!"

He pointed just as helpfully to those sack. "And the top six finishers there will compete in the final competition: PIE EATING. Now listen up: Team Red, left side of the rope from where I'm standing are: Khadgar, Rey, Amaya, Summer, Hera, Bob, Jason, Miguel, Peter, Zack, Clint, and Sabine! Team Blue, right side of the rope are: Tip, Mitsutada, Paris, Hannibal, Norman Astrid, Bobby, Cristina, Manfred, Kitty, Sidon, and Vanessa! I will give you five minutes to figure out your anchors and get in order."

Zack stepped over to the left side of the rope, looking thoughtfully at his team, and then over at the competition.

"Okay! This should be easy. Except for Sidon, I'm pretty sure we got all the people with super strength over here." He pulled his sword off his back, gave it a twirl, and then set it to the side so that it wouldn't be in the way for this.

"One of their team members is a ghost," Norman mused, scratching at his cheek as he looked over at the competition. "That means they're essentially down a player. Maybe this is doable?"

Sound a little more uncertain there, Babcock.

Norman pulled the potato sack up and kind of frowned down at it. And then he sighed. He could just plant his face in the dirt here and bungle this up, and then he wouldn't have to keep competing for the horror show that the fish - that had been terrifying right from the start - had become.

But so help him, a potato sack race was something he did know how to do. There was no way he could bring himself to mess up the one activity he was at least marginally okay at on purpose.

Because this was possibly the most straightforward thing Norman had been told to do since these summer games had even started, he hopped. He hopped like the wind.

Or, well, he hopped like a kid in a potato sack who had a passing familiarity with actual, normal summer camp games. It didn't hurt that he could kind of just tune out and have at it, putting his focus on the finish line and making his way there.

Hop. Hop. Hop.

"... I shouldn't have had that hamburger."

Norman paused, glanced toward the fish, shuddered and then shook his head. No, on second thought, he didn't regret having that hamburger at all.

Norman wasn't sure he trusted the potato salad anyway. Raisins? That was just weird.

So he was going to get himself a hamburger and load it up with pretty much everything he could fit on it without the whole monstrosity falling apart on him. Because if you couldn't have the biggest, stupidest, messiest burger at a cookout, what was even the point?

The weather was disgusting, but Kanan wasn't going to miss this. He'd staked out a good part of the park to sit in the shade and watch from, his dog seated beside him, and he'd bought a few hot dogs from one of the vendors.

One hot dog for him, one hot dog for Stance...

Yeah, this wasn't a bad way to spend a day.

Jono was here, flames out, leaning against the edge of a picnic table with his arms crossed over his chest, pretending that this more or less meant that he was being social. If Hannibal wasn't in these games today, he might have just given his favourite, 'I'm British' excuse and sat this one out completely, but no, now he felt as though he had to be here to cheer him on.

At least he'd left the leather out of the equation today, wearing a pair of blue jeans and a white t-shirt.

The jeans absolutely had a Union Jack patch sewn to his back pocket, though. His red, white, and blue of choice, thank you.

Hmmm, Summer had the choice to spend her holiday at home for a lame cookout and her dad's sad attempts at fireworks, or she could come here, where things were significantly less lame, even if it seemed this place's main association with the USA was merely due to proximity.

Guess which one she picked.

She was, however, disappointed in the lack of jello in the spread of food and fare, and even she had to seriously WTF over raisins in potato salad. She, who was now pondering the concept of a potato salad jello.

"There's also, you know, the big giant fish guy anchor we have," said Astrid, hitching a thumb over her shoulder toward said giant fish guy anchor. "It almost seems a little unfair."

Not that she was complaining, really. Okay, she might be complaining a little. She really didn't want to win that fish again.

Paris rolled the bag up to a strategic height and glared at the people around her. "We might've been teammates three seconds ago, but that doesn't make us friends now."

Paris should never, ever go on a reality show program.
