Laying Low for Beginners, Thursday, Period 1

Okay, so Kanan looked a little bit tired today as he leaned against the Danger Shop controls. At least his hair was back to more-or-less normal, and his brain felt rather less like it was full of scrambled eggs than it had on Monday evening.

"So, last class for this workshop," he said, nodding at the students here. "Last time I taught this thing, I felt like I had something to prove with a couple of students," Dante, "who didn't lay low so much as they decided they'd punch their way out of every possible scenario, so I set them loose in the woods with a giant man-eating animal on the loose."

And they'd killed it instead of avoiding it, and Kanan had despaired forever.

"I'm feeling nicer this week."

The whole room darkened, and a long city street appeared around them, mostly a long corridor with a few alleyways, the buildings only a single storey tall. Good for ducking and hiding. Good for parkour if anybody saw a mighty need. Sure, all the vehicles seemed to be speeder bikes and hoverbuses. And the extras that the danger shop had populated were the same folks that had been in the cantina in class one. Kanan's patience for programming had run out about ten minutes into building the scenario, so he'd cut a few corners.

"There's a bar down there somewhere," he said, waving down the length of the road. "You don't know which building it is, but it's got a safe room in the back. There's pizza there. Make it there before the end of class and you can help yourself. But these guys-" And the room constructed another squad of white-armored stormtroopers, "are on patrol and looking out for you again. And this time, they actually know what you look like."

Hey, look. There were wanted posters appearing on the street walls and lampposts between here and the bar!

"If you get shot, you won't get hurt, but you will get to put on one of those bucket helmets, pick up a blaster rifle, and join the hunt for your classmates. The longer you're out here instead of in that bar, the harder it's going to get to make it there. Better not get caught."

He smirked a little and hit one more button, and suddenly he was wearing Trooper armor too, an orange pauldron on his right shoulder denoting some measure of rank.

"Better get going," he said, his voice sounding almost robotic through the helmet's processing. "I'll give you five minutes and I'll be coming after you, too."

Sabine was not going to look too excited, but this also sounded really fun.

...she did want lasers, though. And her full armor. Maybe she should just bring it all next session.

Alright. Sidon honed in his attention to the instruction, sparing a few glances around to sort of get a feel for their location. He absolutely had to be better at this than he had the first lesson, and, for once, he was feeling perhaps it was a good thing he'd have to depend on something other than his charm (since that had gone over so well and everything).

If one was paying any attention to the Zora in particular at that moment, they would be able to pinpoint the precise moment his plan solidified, a sharp smirk brightening up his face, his feet slightly bouncing now in anticipation to get to it.

Sabine didn't have a lot of practice at this, but it was really her sort of thing. The hardest part was locating the right building, but when it came to running and dodging and finding random things to use as shields, she was good at that. And maybe she took a little joy in smacking stormtroopers when needed.

She'd help if you needed but if you didn't, she had this.

Maaaaybe Sabine missed being a tiny badass more.

Maybe.

With his almost comically proportionally short legs, Sidon knew that running on land was hardly his strong point. Swimming, however...

One would think that didn't do him much good in a city like this, though...unless one had lived in more 'modern' societies long enough to know that even cities as small as Fandom had a sewage system. The problem was finding a manhole large enough for him to fit through, but another thing about Kanan's worlds and their multitude of other non-humans such as himself was that they had to accommodate service workers of different sizes, too. He found one fairly easily, and down he slipped, as quietly and under the cover of shadows as he could.

His plan was to stay on the walkways and drier paths as long as he could, and then jump into the murky sewage at the first sign of white armor or a blaster bolt. Good luck shooting him then! Ha!

...but, yeah, even Sidon was going to stay out of that water unless it was absolutely necessary.

"If you still need class ideas," Sabine said, "more of this."

Just FYI.

I would not at all be opposed to some stormtrooper shenanigans in the shamelessly modded sewer, with a caveat that I might drop off unexpectedly due to complete brain failure.

Breq decided to make this easy. She did her best to look suspicious enough to get two troopers to follow her into a dark alley, then knocked them unconscious and stole the armour from one of them. She had been significantly more efficient as soldiers when she had been a ship, but that wasn't saying much.

Trying to impersonate these poor excuses for troops, she headed down to the safe house.

Breq wasn't going to admit how much she liked pizza. She suspected that any Radchaai above the age of five would find it disgusting, but perhaps that added to it. She picked up a large piece though, not sure if the small effort she had put in actually warranted it.

"That armour is both uncomfortable and useless," she said.

"We've all got our talents," she said easily. "And it's not like there's much opportunity to do that here."
