So last week had been... odd. Liam still wasn't entirely sure how he felt about all of it. But right now that wasn't what he was worrying about. Right now, he had a class to focus on.

Once again, they were portaling to a destination, and once everyone had made their way through, Liam began to speak.

"Welcome to the South Bubble in Acadia National Park, Maine," he greeted. "This is what we're climbing today. What we're doing today is called a 'top rope' climb, because we're relying on ropes that are already secured in place with bolts along the route, and these helpful people here," he said, gesturing at the NPC mountain climbing guides who had conveniently just arrived, "have agreed to belay the ropes for you. This way, in case you lose your footing, you won't fall more than a few feet. Before we get started, let's go through the basics on how to properly secure your harness to the rope."

Once he was certain everyone had that down, he walked them over to the cliff itself, and once everyone had secured themselves properly, they were off!

How long does this climb take IRL? No idea, but we're gonna handwave that it's roughly equivalent to the class period.

Peridot

Okay, a harness! Okay, a rope! Peridot had this.

Maybe it wasn't the most technically challenging thing she'd done on the island, but it was possible she fastened and re-fastened all the bits a few times just to make certain she had the hang of it. A Peridot mind needed to stay engaged, after all.

And up Peridot went! Climbing cliff faces wasn't quite as easy as it would have been with her limb enhancers, but she wasn't exactly afraid of heights or anything, so she didn't even mind all that terribly when she slipped and was left dangling by her harness for a while.

Prince Sidon

As a man who wore only sashes and belts and jewelry, Sidon actually found the harnesses rather intriguing as he fitted himself into one and considered it.

"You know," he mused, "with some higher quality, luxuriant materials and some well placed accouterments, and these could be quite fashionable! Form as well as function!"

Gratuity Tucci

Tip felt much better climbing with a good safety harness. Or did after the first time she fell and found herself just idly swinging around at the end of a rope, anyway. Which made this the first time she was in this class without discovering a new low-key phobia.

So she was having a grand old time climbing. And pitching herself off the rock face a few extra times with a gleeful little giggle, much to her belayer's chagrin.

Yang Xiao Long

Aw yeah, Yang knew how to do this. They were used a lot by people who'd managed to make a settlement up top something too steep to free-climb, in order to try and keep the Grimm at bay. Of course, that just meant they had problems with flying and burrowing ones instead, but Tai had taken her and Ruby out to some of the ones just across the water in Vale territory.

(Yes, Patch was technically part of Vale. But being an island, they typically ignored the mainland, and vice versa.)

Was she checking first to make sure the rope hadn't frayed from years of use, and that the bolts she could see hadn't rusted out? Yes, yes she was. Especially if you were going somewhere isolated, there was no guarantee they'd even thought to do upkeep on the belaying system.

A class like this was something that really made Sidon feel rejuvenated...and very grateful to be amphibious! Ahhh, the air here in the park was so fresh and invigorating, the physical task of hauling himself up with the aid of the ropes was simultaneously energizing and exhausting, and the view was spectacular! He attacked the climb with gusto, surprising no one, surely, but he also made sure to pay close attention to the whole task of using the ropes, so that he might better try to incorporate it back home.

It was no waterfall climbing, to be sure, but he had a feeling the other Zora would be quite impressed when he brought the technique home to show off.

As Sidon was coming up, he couldn't help notice Peridot there, dangling down.

"Goodness, Peridot, are you quite alright?"

"I'm just fine," Peridot decreed, giving Sidon a thumbs-up. "Just taking a rest, that's all."

... She really didn't need a rest.

Also, she was too short to reach the rock again.

Sidon's return thumbs-up might have felt a little...skeptical, but he still smiled, nodding.

"Well, should you find you need a little push or nudge," he offered, "just let me know! When, of course, you're finished resting."

Peridot's thumbs-up was gonna stick around for a while.

"Got it," she replied, grinning over at him. "I'll definitely let you know!"

She was going to be dangling here for the rest of the class.

Uma

Uma's outfits had all been scrounged from stuff she could find back home and included a lot of weird items, like fishing nets and stuff for accessories. Which kept getting tangled in the harness until she took it off.

If any of her stuff went missing before she got back down to recover it, she'd raise holy hell. Where was Bobby so he could encase it all in ice when she needed him.

At least her leather gloves would come in handy.

This used entirely different muscles than climbing a mast or the rigging, but Uma found it fun anyway, especially once they got higher and she could take in the view.

Wow.
