Anakin stood in front of the students gathered inside the Flight Simulator, smiling. "Hello, and welcome to Flight and Flying class. I am Anakin Skywalker, and I practically grew up flying in my home galaxy. I was a podrace champion on Tatooine when I was nine, and then flew countless combat missions before ending up here in Fandom. I'm hoping to be able to pass along my passion for going extremely fast and sometimes upside with all of you. We'll start off fairly easy today--" if you thought like Anakin, at least, "--but I'm afraid we do need to engage in the first week ridiculousness of names. Please also tell me a kind of ship you'd like to fly sometime this summer."

Excited!

Name and favorite ship to fly! Doesn't matter if you have or not.

Not just because they are super, super fun. Anakin gave everyone a quick rundown of how the controls worked for steering the ship and firing the weapons, reassured them that dying in the simulations was why new pilots practiced in a simulation at all, and then started up the trench they would be flying through and the ten targets they were aiming at.

Anakin's time getting through the simulation was 1 minute, 25 seconds. Anyone else with the Force or other enhanced relexes could probably do it in 2 minutes and some change, regular pilots would take at least 3 minutes.

[Mod how you run goes! There are a few steep turns through the run for maximum crashing opportunities!]

“Peebee, and —“ She made a face. “I haven’t really gotten to fly anything much more exciting than your standard shuttle, so . . . hoping to change that here.”

She sounded a little bit grumpy about that. Look, it wasn’t like she had some burning ambition to pilot the Destiny Ascension or anything like that, she just thought it would be fun to take a turian frigate for a joyride or something. Hyetiana hadn’t exactly had a whole lot of options for vehicles she could, um, borrow, outside of shuttles. None that she’d been able to get away with, anyway.

"Theron, I'd like to try flying the X-70B Phantom."

Wasn't like he'd get a chance to back home unless the political situation took a turn for the bizarre.

Peebee crashed her first three attempts, all three in under a minute, because she’d been too busy examining the controls and trying to figure out the way the X-Wing worked to pay complete attention to Anakin’s instructions. Oops.

She made it all the way through the course on the fourth run, though she missed four of the targets and it took her about five minutes. Still. Victory!

Also, she was now trying to figure out if she could, uh, ‘borrow’ a real X-Wing sometime.

Well, good to see controls hadn't changed that much in the time between Theron's and Anakin's.

Theron's time was decent. Nowhere near a Force users, but he didn't crash and it was clear he'd had at least some training.

Sabine Wren

"I'm Sabine," she said, feeling like she'd said that more this week than in her entire life. "I don't really have a favorite, so I wouldn't mind trying some things out and seeing what I like."

Sabine had flown TIEs, so starfighters weren't new to her, but this took a little getting used to. Also, it was really pretty neat.

She hit a respectable time. She wouldn't brag about it, but she wasn't disappointed, either.

The question made Breq uncomfortable. Not the one about her name, the other one.

"I'm Breq, and I'd fly anything. I'm not picky."

It was a lie.

"We can definitely get more exciting than a shuttle," Anakin promised.

"That's a very specific ship," Anakin said, frowning in concentration. "How did you hear about it?"

"Is there a particular type you'd like better? Capital ships? Freighters? Fighters?" Anakin asked.

"So hang gliders are okay?" he teased lightly. "Just a giant kite, some wind and a cliff?"

"Yes," Breq said, truthfully. "I don't see why."

She had been a troop carrier. Nothing really compared to that.

She regretted signing up for this class now, but tried to remind herself that it might be useful.

"Freighters seem the most useful. Fighters are more fun, though." So, both of those!

You know that thing where someone rubs their hands together and cackles to themself? Peebee wasn't quite doing that, but it was close. "That's all I'm looking for, really. Something way less boring than a shuttle."

Bobby Drake

"Bobby Drake, and..." he frowned thoughtfully. "I dunno. A Quinjet, maybe?" Because it wasn't like the Avengers would ever actually let him pilot one.

"Just checking," Anakin said. "Some people think they want to fly all kinds of aircraft, then balk when the sides are taken away."

"I think that could be arranged," Anakin said thoughtfully. "Those have always looked like fun for an Earth vessel."

"I'm thinking it could be good experience for flying more complicated ones," Breq replied.

After a brief moment, she added: "What kind of aircraft did you fly on your combat missions?"

"Had family in the war." Which was very very true, and very very vague. "Heard a bunch of stories, saw some holos."

Yang Xiao Long

"Yang, and I've never gotten to fly a ship," she said, bouncing a little bit. "I can drive lots of things, though, and I'm pretty good at getting myself airborne."

Yang's first two attempts had crashes as she got used to where everything was, and her third was a battered and bouncing off things precariously five-minutes.

Not too terrible!

After quickly walking it off she was back in the sim one more time, and managed a tighter run in three. Between being a fast learner and Huntress-in-training reflexes, she didn't do too badly at all.

Rufus Shinra

"Rufus," he said, when it was his turn. "I've never flown before, though my interest would be in helicopters."

Primarily because they were one of the few 'ships' Midgar had.
